I really hope they did not have their dog in that kennel. Why would anyone put their dog in a kennel on a boat??????? I can not stand irresponsible hunters.

They have lots of ducks, most every pond is covered up.
I went up to a ranchers house and asked permission to hunt his ponds.
I told him I was from East Texas and that we loved hunting them.
He told me " Son you live in Wyoming now, we have Elk, mule deer, whitetails and antelope. "
He put his hand on my shoulder and with a sad look on his his face said
" You dont have to eat ducks any more "
That's funny.

So camping out 5 days in advance just to get a spot! They said there were at least 10 groups there already with 5 days to go! Ain't nothing in the woods around here worth that especially for the chance to shoot 6 teal!!!!

Alot of new Duck Hunters out there coming in from College Ducks Unlimited chapters and they can be very disrespectful kids. Last couple years I have had words with some of these young men but that's Public Hunting. If I were able to afford it I would travel and do guided hunts lot less work involved too. Did not know duck leases were that expensive I knew the Duck Clubs were like that but that's catered hunting would expect to pay that much

Public land ain't bad depending where you go. We take our boys a bunch on public land, they get to cut their teeth the same way the Ole man did. Yup, sometimes we sit in line all night and it sucks but it's something he will always remember. He loves it and gets to learn how to kill ducks and geese that are pressured and you have to work for. We hunt all over, public and private. It's all fun to us and we kill ducks on some of the same potholes and flats I killed em on 30 years ago. They taste pretty dang good too if you know how to cook em!

My cousin is Sean deCento. He is the current National Vice President of Ducks Unlimited, and lives right there in the San Antonio area. You should be able to find him on FaceBook. Give him a call. I believe he may be able to send you in the right direction, or at least give you some options. Good Luck

Good grief that brings back some painful and some good memories.
We had it so good in college and law school......
My roommate's dad owned a spot on Ashbrook island and we got to go for two weeks every year. Free accommodations and hunting. He didn't care a thing about duck hunting, we found a lot of practically every species and a pile of banded birds on that little island paradise stuck in the middle of the Mississippi River.
The rest of the year we took my best friends Pathfinder right down the Mississippi to the refuge, paddled out in our pirogues, and hunted right next to that sucker, then fished the rest of the day., either camped or bunked together at the Venice Marina if the weather was cold.
Living like kings on twenty or thirty bucks a day.
Then I tried to buy a duck lease a few years later and found out I wasn't that interested in duck hunting.....Last edited by Atfulldraw; 11-10-2015, 06:37 PM.

I killed my first deer and turkey on Ashbrook in 87. That place was awesome!! I haven't heard that place mentioned in a long time. Had about 100 deer go by me one morning.
