Awesome. Nothing wrong with pre-employment negotiations in a professional manner.

What do her counterparts sell per year? Seems like a much better opportunity.

          Example: 36000 + (.08*175000) = 50000

          If she sells 500k, she'll make $76k

This doesn't include the phone/car allowance
          ^^^That.

She will be in a position to give herself a raise any day of the week, just go sell some more.

I read most of the thread. I did not see a few questions I would be asking up front to the hiring manager:

            1) Why is the territory open?
            2) Where is the rep that was here and how long did he/she have the territory?
            3) How many of the reps hit their quota annually?
            4) Who is number 1 and can I talk to them?
            5) How is the company doing financially?
            6) How often do new products get released?
            7) How competitive is the product? Is the product a "me to" product or technology product?
            8) Is the company number 1 in its field or number 5?

Here is my medical device story: Was at an outside sales job in the industrial market for 5 years making about 70,000. Got an opportunity to interview with a very well known device company selling to hospitals for base of 36,000 + company car + cell + office expenses + commission! Sounded like a win win! First year their all excited i found out the rep before me was in the territory for 9 years and blew it out. He left due to no new products and no growth potential. I made less the first 2 years at the company than my old job. Year 3 i decided to look else where, which led to a better gig with more upside potential.

I have been in the medical device field over 10 years and now know exactly what to ask during interviews.

Keep in mind that most dentist do not make decisions on their own. they are not business savy folks they are dentist. They hire office managers who protect them at all cost.

Please understand I am just trying to help and not make this negative.

            Good Luck!

Thanks for the input, she manages the back office for a dentist so she is very familiar with the purchasing process. The company is the largest in Europe and has a couple of innovative features that set it apart from other implants. Also it is a brand new territory and the product has done very well in the Los Angeles and Miami markets. The girl that hired her is in Dallas and has done very well in her two years. The benefits are also very good!

These are the questions I would ask. Does her current job require her to use her car for work? Will she be spending gas or is company paying the gas? What portion of the mileage and maintenance will she be able to write off on taxes? I know it differs some if the company pays gas.

I would gather my wife up and pray. God already knows what's going to happen. He will lead your family.

                    Did she hear back?

You paying for gas this trip?

If she is even the least bit outgoing it seems like a no brainer to me as well. Just give her a little support and she'll be just fine.

European companies often have better benefits and vacation too!

Might have missed it, but does the $600 for the car include gas from the company or does she have to provide it. If it not provided the 50K is better deal.
