If she doesnt want that job, send her to me. I can give her a job in sales and she will definately make over 50k a year. I have been here 21 years, 16 as the District Sales Manager. We only sell in the metroplex and dont require travel or weekend work. Typical business day is 8-5.

I think her sales will be a plenty.............
I would counter (explaining to the HR person what her current salary is and that she does not want to drop much below that).
She could counter with:
Same Current Salary-let them know open for negotiation on this, they may come up some
Same Car Allowance
Same Phone Allowance
Offer only 5% commission-they would actually benefit more than her on this part if they believe in their products and she still gets a bonus
Other small perks not shown would be the increase in 401K (extra would be pulled from each commission check), a little money towards any wear and tear items on the car she did not have before, vacation?, medical and dental more or less?
Need to consider all the items.
BUT, one thing to really consider is that no one can put a price tag on being happy with your job. Less money at a job you love is always worth more (not monetarily of course) than more money and a job you hate.
Just my $.02.
I have never and never will leave a job for less than a 10% increase.

She's got the look and Drs like good looking women just like other men. My sister is in sales and she knocks it out of the park. Get's face to face meetings that a man never could. Tell your wife to go for it. The worst thing possible is she quit a job she hated and learns a few things. Can't clear a hurdle if you don't jump.

I've been in med device sales for many years, now selling vascular devices for last 6 years. I would say make decision based on what she wants to do long term. Dental is an interesting segment in that some future prospective employers love it, and many don't consider as med device experience per se. I would be happy to talk with you or her if you have any questions.

In reality, you have to back out your existing car payment, car insurance and current cell phone cost from the $8160 to get the real number to add back in. If you take those same existing costs and back them out of her current salary of 48k you may be closer than you think, the 8% commission is the kicker, should put her well above the current 48k if she hustles. Just my 2 cents.

I've been in a salary + commission position since I got out of college. I can't imagine working any other type of job. There is no way I could go to work on January 1st and know exactly what my W2 is going to say on Dec 31st. I have the ability to give myself a raise EVERY DAY I work and I wouldn't have it any other way.
