Spike a 7 point and I heard some hogs. No shooters or slick heads. Was a successful hunt still though. I thought seeing the snake was pretty neat. Last weekend I saw two copperheads. One of which was huge! And i saw a full grown large and in charge coachwhip. Very cool. Lots of snakes out this year.

I was making my rounds one morning when I was working at Rockport Country Club. It was Ladies day and a group of them had just finished playing #1. I was sitting in my carryall waiting on them to pass when I saw something fall out of an oak tree as just as they passed underneath it. I drove over to see what it was and it was about a 2ft copperhead. Grabbed my shovel and dispatched him. If he had fallen a second sooner he would have fell on the roof of their golf cart or worse into their golf bags.

I had a friend that from what I remember fell out of a tree because of a snake so he had me get him some kingsnakes so he could get over his fear. He kept them, fed them and held them over a year and lost his fear. Jumping out of a tree will get you killed faster than any snake you will find in a tree and as outdoor types we should be able to ID all snakes. The only snakes I have ever seen up in a tree are rat snakes

He screamed which I heard roughly 3/4 of a mile away and jumped. His tree harness caught him but when the snake continued out of the hole and down onto the platform, he drew out his knife and cut the strap. He only fell about 11 feet and thankfully wasn't hurt.

A few years ago, I shot a hog on my lease outside Cameron. My buddy Nate and I were tracking the hog in the dark, through the brush and we came upon a copperhead near a rotting laydown. I backed out as quick as I could and wouldnt go any further until Nate killed the snake. He killed it and we went on to find my pig 20 yds further.

I have some very good photographs (like 10 feet) of a huge Diamondback Rattlesnake attempting to climb a Post Oak in Oklahoma. He tried for 15 minutes to get up that tree. Eventually he climbed the one next to it, and found a branch over into the one he wanted. I then realized why he was trying so hard - there was a bird nest with newly hatched chicks in that tree and yup, you guessed it. The chicks got it. It was fascinating to watch. That dude was big too. Like 5 feet. Gave me a healthy appreciation of how well snakes can climb trees.

Several years ago I had a stand about 25 ft. up a huge native pecan tree.About 20 foot up the tree branched out and there was a big flat spot where I would usually step.Opening morning of bow season I was going up my climbing sticks and had a flashlight in my mouth. As soon as my head got high enough to see into the flat spot about 20 foot up there was a good sized copperhead laying in it.I went back down and snapped off a stick and climbed back up and flipped him out of the tree.I saw him 3 other times laying in the same spot and I guess he got tired of getting flipped out of the tree because he disappeared forever.I have seen lots of copperheads but never up a tree like this one.
