I just got back from Vegas on Monday and I support the gambling in Texas needs to Happy Right Now!!! lol
But seriously if you want gambiling in Texas no tables just slots in Falfurias that the sherrif has said he will not disrupt their business of running an 18 liner. But your in Falfurias so.... ya
Also there are some in the little towns down here and they get shut down every once in a while but open right back up a few days later. I also so an add for a little 18 liner place that they give you silver and the store next door trades the silver in for cash? Anyone seen that one? It had its own commercial on tv the other day.

They are not making any money.
A group of us went to Sam Houston for the derby this year and it was dead.
Sam Houston doesn't have slot machine gambling as it's illegal in Texas. Yes, there are a few loop holes as can be seen by machines in gas stations and those little gambling game rooms. The loop hole used to be, these places can only pay-out in gift certificates, not actual cash. Not to mention, many of these places get raided and shut down for paying out cash directly.

That's hysterical!!
Some friends took me to a furniture auction house in town that had kegs and wine.
We left before the auction started but most people there had a glass in their hand.

The way I understand it...
Racing in Texas has been dying a slow death because of casino gambling at the tracks in Shreveport and Oklahoma City (I'm sure Hot Springs too). These tracks have a stronger revenue and are able to pay bigger purses on their races, so the horse owners in Texas are crying out to raise the purses or they'll take their horses elsewhere.
The Racing Commission wanted to "help out" by legalizing a game called Historical Racing. The senate told them it was gambling (slot machine) and would not be allowed. They approved it anyway, which ticked off the Senate. If you like your government funded position, don't tick off the Senate.
So time came to get the budget approved, and guess what?!?! The legislature first rejected the budget, then allowed surplus monies from 2015 be used for the first fiscal quarter of 2016. This has allowed fall racing, but who knows what the spring will hold.
If you really want to have fun, see how much campaign funding the current seats get from Louisiana and Oklahoma.
Weed will probably be legal in Texas before gambling will..and horse/dog racing is dying on the vine.

Seems odd that casino's litter the boarder of Texas and are filled with Texas residents and the state doesn't want the tax money. Must be some people getting paid in that state government to not open casino's up here, it would seem it's common sense to open a few up in the big cities. Considering the entire cities of Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston have about an hour drive to get to a casino and give the money away to Louisiana or Oklahoma, very strange deal.
