If I called the police every time I heard a noise that I thought could be possibly be something, gathered the family and just hunkered down in the back room & waited for th police to arrive, the police would freaking hate me. People go check the noise out with their gun in rural situations. That's just how it is. Most times its a dog that saw his shadow wrong.

Exactly. 2 nights ago the wife and I hear this repeated muffled banging sound at 12:30 in the morning. It sounded like someone was banging on the outside wall of the house. I go outside with gun in hand. Turns out it was my neighbor working in his shed next door. This was after we heard about the shooting in Hamshire.
