It's still early in the season.

I'm sure there will be more opportunities.

So I guess I shouldn't be preparing for a dove hunt?

              I don't see why not.

              We have shade and beers.

              Is there anything else?

We have had fairly good birds the last couple of years without any prep at all.

                Birds?

I can drink beer in the shade anywhere.

                Nice edit.

You are a few months late on Sunflower and millet. Next year try to get those planted in late March early April.

Always avoid planting for fall anything before Sept 1. You might have some green plants, but not very likely they will ever head out. Fall stuff might likely burn up before season deer season if it does germinate. You can always replant middle of September.

that's kind of what I figured, but please see thread title.

live and learn. sometimes over and over....

I've got a ton of the sunflower seeds left...is it worth planting them in september or should I just hang on to them till next year.

The one thing you have going for you is they will accumulate growing degree days very quickly. Depending on the days to maturity and if the millet photoperiod sensitive or not, they should eventually produce seed if you keep the patch watered. My guess is you will have a better chance for the late dove season.

It's my fence, so I cut a hole in it for the dog to get through.

                              wanton waste and all.....

I have been told to put those sunflower seeds in the freezer for a day before you plant them....
