To go out to 150+ most will use two peeps. I prefer to 100 in. It keeps things pretty simple.
Having killed past 60 numerous times, I have never had a deer jump my string at that distance. I have had them jump it at 25 to 35. The farther they are, the more their reaction is one of curiosity and not that violent I'm out of here move.
I have shot 80 on targets but nothing more than 40 in an actual hunting situation, on my lease in east Texas 20-30 is the most clear 35 is pushing it with all the foliage in them piney woods
I practice out to 100 most days I shoot. I can hit a lung size target at 100 but dont plan on taking a shot on animal near that far just because sound travels about three times faster than the arrow. Jittery Texas Whitetails can be in another county in that amount of time.
I shoot that far because I want to and its America.
A whitetail is probably not going to hear your bow at a distance of 100yards. I have seen many not even flinch at a bow shot at 35 or more yards. Not saying they won't react but doubtful they will.
How many times have you seen a deer react to being missed by a rifle shot? Not a lot do at long distances.
In the past I practiced out to 80...made a 25yd shot seem automatic. Now I practice out to 50. I cant seem to group them like I once did. Don't know what happened.
I wonder what most guys responses would be up in Wyoming, Idaho, or any of these western states compared to in Texas? Bet the majority of them shoot way further then most guys in Texas would ever dream of shooting.
I take much more pride in shooting an animal at 15 yards and in than 40 yards and beyond. IMO it takes much more hunting skill to kill them up close and personal.
50 and beyond, I'm breaking out the pistol or rifle.
