    Practicing at long range distances

Came across this guy on Youtube, and in this video he states that he practices out to 160 yards. Twice his distance of normal hunting range of 80 yards. Most of my shots are between 20-40 yards. I only practice out to about 50 some times 60 yards. I dont really see a need to practice out more than that only because if I am pretty accurate at 60 yards, I feel I can knock down just about anything I am hunting. Never gave it a second thought to practicing out farther than that. Any of you practice out farther than 100+ yards? Does it build your confidence that much more when hunting in the 30-50 yard range?

I practice at 100 as much as I can. I never gave it a second thought until I started trying my hand at spot and stalk. I want to be able to kill out to 60, but I know I need to be as good at 60 as I am at 30 in order to be confident and not overthink my shot. Once I started getting pie pan sized groups at 109, my 60 yard game was a pop shot. At 20 it felt like cheating. When I'm deer hunting in a blind, I have no question as to my ability. Not to say I don't get jittery and could possibly jack up a shot (done it before and I'll do it again), but I am much more comfortable drawing back on an animal now than I ever was

I practice at 30 all the time. That is twice my normal distance.

        I practice 40,50 & 60. That makes 20-30 a chip shot.

I try to practice to at least 80 yes whenever I shoot. If the wind isn't howling I shoot to 100 Yds and at times stretch it to 120-130. I think long range really helps you learn good form and follow through. I hunt lots of spot and stalk and I feel comfortable with a first shot to 60 Yds and if it feels perfect then out to 80 Yds. I have taken follow up shots over 100 Yds and done quite well. I do think long range practice helps as does up close blind bale practice.

i have a 135 yard target , it's about the only distance i practice at,,, i hope i can get it backed up to 150, its finally dry enough to move it farther,,, my longest shot on an animal,, 42 and i do not plan on shooting any farther,, but the long range practice made it an easy shot

You know the record books have an average shot distance of 15 yards.
So I don't feel the need to practice any further then 30 yards myself.

I practice up to 80 but I'd like to move it on out there to 100. Going beyond 100... Not sure.

If I practiced at 100 + yards I would probably loose all my arrows. With the cost of arrows 60 is far enough for me.

I practice 60-80. Getting ready for elk, so I jog 100 yards and shoot 5 arrows, repeat.

I practice out to 80 but do the majority of my practicing at 40-60.

I like to practice at 100 yards just because it keeps my shooting sessions interesting, it does help with your follow up but mainly keeps it interesting, best bow buck to date was a amazing 7 yard shot, LOL.

I practice out to 100 most days I shoot. I can hit a lung size target at 100 but dont plan on taking a shot on animal near that far just because sound travels about three times faster than the arrow. Jittery Texas Whitetails can be in another county in that amount of time.
I shoot that far because I want to and its America.
