Installing a 30A travel trailer plug at home

Anyone done this? How much will this run me to pay an electrician to do it? I don't fool with electricity so there is no DIY in my near future.

Been thinking of putting one at the house. We do a lot of weekend trips in the summer with the kids and would like to be able to plug in and run AC on high and refrigerator on it at that same time while loading/unloading. Can't do that from a 20a plug and a long extension cord. The both kick on but AC shuts off often to give the fridge the power it needs so it never really cools down until at night. Instead I run fridge on propane to give the AC the power it needs but really can't run anything else in the heat of the day.

In for answers. I've been thinking the same thing.

Not bad at all, as long as you have room in your electric panel for the additional breaker. Cost depends a lot on where you need it and its proximity to the panel.

Just checked my breaker boxes and I should be OK. One has one open slot and the other has two. Both are not very far from where I want the panel. Thanks will check into pricing for it.

If the ac will run on it without tripping the breaker just switch the fridge to gas while you load.

That's what I do now but would like to be able to keep it here longer and running everything off the electricity.

I just put in a 40 amp breaker and ran wire through the attack and ran conduit down the side of the house to the box also put a regular 110 box under the 30 amp box. Couple of hours at best. I used 10 gauge 3 wire. Comes in handy during holidays when you need a couple of extra beds.

Keep 911 on speed dial for when the fire happens........

If you are using 10-3 you need to drop that breaker down to 30 amp

Why do you need 10-3 for a 30 amp 120volt recep?
If it's close it shouldn't be more than a few hundred bucks with a Lic electrician.
Might see if somebody in your area wants a side job

As a note.... a 30 amp trailer plug is not wired like a 220/240V dryer plug.. it is 30 amp 110/120V Make sure that whoever does it KNOWS THIS otherwise you are gonna be really sorry and broke fixing stuff.. Seen it done more than once..

all you do is pull the 20 amp out, take a Phillips screwdriver, unhook the wire and put it in the new 30 amp breaker. Slap that puppy back in and your good to go.

LOL! why not. That's all the electrician is gonna do.

Plus it is a slotted screw that you can use #2 square tip on also

                              But what do I know?
