    Simple solution one would think.

You don't need a gun, LOL. Everyone is so **** scared these days. If you had ran towards the dog screaming he would have turned and ran.

    Come on people. Toughen up.

Someone came in my yard screaming my dogs would definitely not turn and run lol. Just scary cause like he said he has kids and they aren't as tough as is grown ups or quick to think.

      You would be surprised.

90% of dogs choose flight over fight when challenged.

Hmm, well the back of my leg a couple months ago could serve as proof that is not always the case. I did plenty of yelling and was still bit by one dog while lucky the pit bull had the cone of shame on and could not get to me

So when that 10% bites your kid you will be good with it?

Actually I banged on the trash can lid and yelled at him to go on and he stood there and barked at me. It wasn’t until I felt like he was going to try and get past the can when I reached for my gun.

I love dogs and have never hurt one and would not be happy with ever having to kill one. But what I saw yesterday was not just a dog that doesn’t know me. This neighbor is not right next door to me. They are across the road and on the opposite corner from me. That dog came in hot from over 170 yards.

In court this can be used to establish premeditation. Don't know how that applies to this situation, but most legal strategies in self-defense cases hinge on, "I did what I had to do in the heat of the moment to protect myself" and premeditation/planning generally doesn't play well.

                ..
But it's the 10% that you don't know about. Better have a backup plan just in case.

Had nearly the same situation in my front yard a few years ago. Its funny how the dogs seem to know that you are about to kill them. I had my hand on the grip when the catahoula/pit mix turned and ran off.

Id suggest calling the LEO and letting them know, that way, when you do kill the d*** dog, there are no ...issues.

I'd warn the guy about his dog and tell him the dog IS on his last chance and next time it won't return.

                        Not at all.

However the percentages are even smaller when you use those numbers together with how many dogs are running loose in your yard. LOL.

That was 10% of ALL DOGS.

ZERO tolerance for bad behaving animals...especially on my own property.

I raised catahoulas and bulldogs for nearly 30 years. As a responsible individual I made sure I could keep my dogs at home. I have zero tolerance for animals that are allowed to roam. They almost always cause some kind of problem. Maybe as simple as getting into the trash, or as major as attacking someone. What if someone is driving home and the dog ran in front of the car causing a wreck? The point is that loose animals are always a problem. If the owner is not smart enough to correct the problem then someone else needs to be.

Had almost the exact thing happen to me a few weeks ago. Rounded the back end of the truck and there was the neighbors dog. Started snarling and approaching. Quick draw and it took off. Talked to the neighbor a few days later and his first question was why didn't I shoot the dog! I told him I couldn't get a clear l, safe shot! Luckily our neighborhood is a close knit country neighborhood and we have a verbal agreement. If the dog is causing problems, say digging in the trash, it gets a bb gun to the rear. If it shows aggression, it's dead period! No questions asked and no second chances. Most of us have small children and most of the dogs run free so we don't take chances. The dog in question left one day not long after that and never showed back up. My guess, and the owners guess, is someone took it out for whatever reason, probably agression . I would have absolutely no problem with someone putting my heeler down if he got agressive with them or their kids. I know I would if he did it to me or mine. Love my dog but won't tolerate having to worry about him attacking someone's young child!
