We have put down some of our own dogs for that very reason. Growled and hair raised several times but we were around and he never did anything. Then he attacked and ripped a good friend of ours shirt. Minor scratch wounds on his skin luckily. We weighed the options and its not worth the risk. All that 10% talk sounds good in theory but when you're situation is in the 10% it is viewed a lot differently. Good luck with your situation.

What if someone is driving home and the dog ran in front of the car causing a wreck? The point is that loose animals are always a problem. If the owner is not smart enough to correct the problem then someone else needs to be.

I agree for the most part.

We have a dog like that in our neighborhood it comes across from the street behind us. All the neighbors have called on it and the animal control has written a ticket or two but that doesn't stop the people from letting him loose. It's bad when everyone on the street has to walk with a stick or something cause of that dog. My wife won't walk without me anymore. He came at me once in my own yard I opened the gate and turned my big dog loose and sent him yelping back to his own house.

Sorry to read about this. Bad situation to be in. I'd have a talk with the guy. Let him know what's up. Good luck!

Yes lord.........and most of the self proclaimed dog whispers will be right here on TBH telling you how crappy you are.

end of story! The neighbor with the loose and aggressive dog probably wont hesitate to wipe yours off the map if it charged him.

99.9 per cent of bad dog behavior is the owners fault. However some owners are idiots and the dog suffers the consequences. I still believe it should be a last resort before you harm the dog.

My own personal experience in 30 years as a cable guy.

                      LOL.

My dad taught me that when I was young. We got ran out of a yard trying to do a bury drop by a big bad Doberman. He showed up and ran that dog up on the porch. LOL.

I have backed down many dogs that people said there was no way you could.

Working dog forums are also a good place to learn about drives in dogs and such.

                      Google.

Most dog bites come from fear, not aggression.

I used to work for ChemLawn while finishing grad school spraying lawns (now TruGreen or something) in DFW Metro and I can tell you the mass majority of wanna-be bad dogs once challenged back down extremely fast! But that was something I learned growing up like Bob noted. Not hard to discern between the others. Once confronted with "others" I will act with unabashed violence...........not ever going to put a dog before self preservation, my family or even a innocent by-stander!

So you are saying that the dog ran to my yard from over 170 yards away to confront me over fear? Sure didn't look like fear to me.

Also there is a difference from going into the dogs yard vs. the dog coming to you.

I know a guy that has a little bit of land actually the area he lives I think everyone has 10 of so acres. Well he raises a couple head of cattle, goats, etc. The neighbor has 10 or so dogs that often time go under his fence and chase his cattle around. For what he told me they have never caught anything but still run around trying.

The guy I know got fed up on day and shot two dogs through the fence to teach the neighbor a lesson. Guess what they have been in court 5 or 6 times and the guy I know swears he is going to kill the other guy.

Things like this get out of hand very quickly.

He didnt bite you bro. He left.

Yes, the dog in His yard is much more liable to bite. They are protecting property.
