One of my kiddos is 7 right now at the time of application and will be 8 by the time of the hunt (minimum age allowed) but the online system will not allow us to apply with him on it because he is not 8 at the time of the application. Doh!

If he is 8 by the time of the hunts... y'all can try and go on standby. A lot of places are generous with standby positions for kids.

I think Texas Slam sales start when license sales do but I could be wrong

HUNT METHOD: Assigned Blind; No blinds are available.
About this I think is what they mean is it is an assigned spot/blind. However they don't supply blinds.

                  I could be wrong.

Not just bow hunts that are cut back either
Some of the biologist that run RC and Gus Engeling have made it no secret they want the archery hunts GONE from those two places!

Every year, they keep cutting back.
If they don't cut out a complete hunt, they are cutting back on permits.
Posted this over in the public hunts section earlier the archery category has been going downhill for a decade

Heres the #'s on permits offered over the last 10 years for archery deer, from 2010 to 2013 I did include the crossbow category, this category went away last year.

                              2005-979 permits, 21 areas
                              2006-?
                              2007-666 permits, 18 areas
                              2008-641 permits, 20 areas
                              2009-667 permits, 21 areas
                              2010-805 permits, 21 areas
                              2011-712 permits, 20 areas
                              2012-559 permits, 15 areas
                              2013-476 permits, 16 areas
                              2014-363 permits, 16 areas
                              2015-275 permits, 16 areas

Thats a 72% decline in archery draw permits since 2005...

He said too may bowhunters take long/unethical shots on the last days of the hunt and wound deer, too many wounded/lost deer was his claim. The men are bowhunters themselves but but don't like offering bowhunts there because they could meet their management goals with just gun hunts. I've been to GE for several rifle hunts and get the feeling from those particular biologists we hunters were just a necessary evil so to speak. The resource at RC and GE is plentiful, seems selfish to limit hunting opportunity there IMO,
