    TPWD draw hunts

    What happened?????

The number of hunts/permits has been drastically cut this year unless they are planning on adding to what is listed

No archery hunts at Big Lake, Richland and only one at Engeling.

Probably be 2000 applicants for 60 bow spots at Engeling

It changes every year depending on herd management

Good for me! I don't want to get drawn this year due to being drawn at Hagerman and having a Colorado pronghorn hunt scheduled.

I'm gonna say BS on this.
Every year, they keep cutting back.
If they don't cut out a complete hunt, they are cutting back on permits.

Richland and Big Lake have both probably been under water but no reason for Engeling to cut back.

Not just bow hunts that are cut back either

The whole system is goin downhill imo! Way more ppl applying due to the new system for even fewer permits!

We hunted Kickapoo Caverns numerous years in a row back in the 90's, then they offered no more hunts there for a while and now Kickapoo is once again offering hunts. Been applying and hunting this system since the mid 80's. Seen it many times.

But saying all that this electronic system is the worst scenario for those of us applying for years it magnified the applicants tremendously which means more money for TPWD

                  Huh?

DEVILS RIVER SNA - DAN A. HUGHES UNIT

Three White-tailed Deer; Either Sex; Limit One Antlerless and One Buck

So can you only shoot whitetail named Caitlyn for your third deer?

Wish they would give the option of only buying preference points.

Would have expected them to do better being this is not the first year they have done this.
Seems like there was a member who works for TPWD that always has some inside info, maybe they will chime in on what is going on.

Exactly - 3-5 yrs of drought for most of the state doesnt lead to an abundance of animals needing to be harvested. I am pretty sure research is done to provide the numbers needed to be taken each year ( At least I know they do at Possum Kingdom State Park). As long as they continue doing them in the week instead of on the weekend I will continue missing out.

Sure will be a lot of preference points will be given out this year. Very limited, but worth entering every year.
