Cost for a small cabin

I'm leaning towards solar. Has anybody had luck with it? I know it's came a long way in both quality and price I just don't know anybody that has done it?

I looked into it, but it would cost nearly the same as them running power ($14k). Plus with solar you have upkeep costs and battery replacement down the line.

Edit, I just noticed it is picture of the flag on your wall, not the little AC units Mcafee was talking about.

i ended up going with a central ac unit because i wanted my walls to go all the way up. (more room for mounts that way) plus mine is 1120 sq ft and the majority of the ones using the wall units are smaller. the people i spoke to with the wall units were very happy with them

After talking with 91cavgt and Brazos Hunter on the DIY solar power thread it looks like solar will be very affordable and actually cheaper than bringing in power. Should run @$3,500

Please keep us updates. When I looked into solar it was going to cost a lot more than $3,500, so I'm interested in seeing how yours turns out.

Will do. Yeah I looked into it a couple of years ago and it was going to run over $8,000.

Has anyone had issues with their taxes going up? We are currently Ag exempt and only pay $85 a year for taxes on 77 acres. I like it that way lol.

I would also look at the steel frame buildings. People turn those into houses also.

That's what we are planning to do for a shop/MIL quarters before we build the house.

I know a builder out of Comfort that may be willing to travel to build your cabin. I'd think he could beat that price. Shoot me a PM if interested.

Never heard back from them, do you have anyone else in the area that you would recommend?

the guy in Fredricksburg is JJ Mcafee, he built my cabin 2 yrs ago.
mine is 1100 sq ft, but his smaller ones are really nice too.

around $65 a sq ft and his guys do fantastic work with the white pine on the walls and ceiling. i love mine.
