So I get the fact that the car needed to be stopped. I personally think it should have been done a whole lot sooner. It looked like it needed to be done. I feel for the officers dealing with that call.

I don't understand the need for the butt stroke. There were plenty of officers pulling this guy out of that window. He barely had room to get in there himself. I was watching the live feed on the TV and didn't catch it. My wife did though; she commented that as soon as the one officer popped him another officer pulled him back immediately. She even hit "rewind" on the DVR and made me watch it again.

I heard on the news last night that the officer claims that the driver was falling and grabbed the buttstock in an attempt to "catch himself”. I have no idea if the officer actually said that or if this is what his lawyer came up with. I’m not buying it either way. The live feed had a different camera angle than the one they showed on the news and it looked pretty clear to me.

My question is this, and it's directed to FWPD admin: if you disagreed with the PITT, did you provide your officers involved in the pursuit with another option? You pay your officers to make split second decisions that SAVE LIVES. That's what they did. They had to do that because you, as administration, couldn't or wouldn't make a decision to end the pursuit.

My other question is what did they expect them to do? A possibly armed subject and it was ruled too dangerous for stop sticks, what other option do you have for them? They did what they had to do and they did it with the perfect vehicle, the perfect techinique at the perfect time.

Chicken **** admin will be the downfall of policing in general. Patrol is the backbone of your police organization. If you're a street cop and you start hesitating because you're afraid your administration is not going to back you on a tough call, you are going to wind up getting killed when you hesitate in the field. I'm not talking about backing an officer who has done wrong. The officer giving the perp a rifle butt to the face, give him some days off without pay and send him to a use of force class. The officer that did the PITT, give him a commendation for thinking outside the box and making the tough call. Instead you've got an interim chief at FW who's trying to tread lightly and not **** off the city council instead of applauding the fact that no one was injured and they took the perp in custody without bloodshed, despite a 2 hour pursuit.

        Despicable.

The media is killing cops and soldiers due to their liberal slant and influence on policy. To me, the PIT is much safer than say, having an officer get out of his car to deploy spike strips. After all no one knows what the criminal has in mind and he could run over the officer intentionally like the guy did here in Houston a few weeks ago. He then proceeded to end the chase by killing himself. Awesome, now we have 2 kids with no dad for no good reason.

The standard needs to be just like the waiver you sign before sky diving. If you commit a crime, you run the risk of injury or death regardless of the severity of your crime. You as a criminal understand that and forgo your rights to sue or complain. If this was the standard along with much more undesirable jail conditions, these crooks may re-think their decisions.

Your "I told u so" was baseless. Some officers did what you were screaming for and now they are paying the price. I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Let me go find that contractor thread so I can start yelling I TOLD YOU DO about something I know nothing about.
Thanks Chew! My thoughts exactly. But I'm guessing this thread will get deleted, too.

if the chase went on for that long, why was the swat vehicle used and not one of the other vehicles earlier on? That's my only question. I didn't see the whole video, just the PITT and thought "BAM! that's how its done!" didn't care about the rest because I didn't expect more.

Your second paragraph is my thought exactly regarding the officer that gave him a stock sammich. I don't care if it was excessive or not. You wasted two hours and countless dollars because you were geeked out on meth.... I would have popped him twice... one to grow on.
