Leaving the front gate open or closed?

The only time we leave it open is if we are expecting someone and gonna be where we can see who comes in. Otherwise always closed & ALWAYS locked at night.

We leave the gate to our camp open when we're there or if someone needs to get in there while we're not around. It's our old family place about 40 minutes from my parents house, but we still have some family close and know anyone that lives around there. There haven't been any cows on the place for years so no sense in shutting the gates. I'm sure people occasionally ride around out there and probably fish the river, but that's not a big deal to us. My grandpa absolutely hated seeing the spread of the purple paint back in the late 90's, so that place never even had a posted sign on it until he passed!

Most people up there know each other and most all know/respect who's is who's. North AR hasn't really changed much in the last 50 years so we don't worry about stuff. If the gate is open, you better come by and have a beer and hunt an afternoon with us!

Rule of thumb- Leave it how you found it.

But as far as the entrance gate-- Always closed, and ideally leave the gate lock on set of random numbers to know if anyone has piddled with the lock.

Just keeps honest people honest. I don't know why, but there are a few strange people out there that for whatever reason will have the urge to drive through an open gate; whether it be they are lost or just want to look around.

Leave a gate how you found. If it's closed when I pull up to it, it's closed when I pull away from it.

My place the rule per land owner is leave it as you found it. So far all of the gates have been closed every time.
