Leaving the front gate open or closed?

This is kind of a dumb question, but I wanted to poll other's opinions.

When you are at the ranch or deer lease overnight do you leave the front gate open or closed?

I've always left our’s open to allow emergency vehicles entry in the event we had to call 911. I also like would be trespassers to see that someone is "home” as a deterrent.

I've had others ask why we don’t lock up the gate every night to keep people out. Our cabin / camp is several hundred yards from the road and not visible from the gate.

closed most of the time...... if we are doing a lot of running in and out, then it will stay open until bedtime.

front gate is closed after going through, interior gates are left as is. Land owner has some cows on property and rotates them around as needed.

After several break ins we started keeping it closed all the time, even when there. We then attached a zip lock bag to the gate and placed messages in it to let folks know where we were on the lease(usually the camp house stand) or what time we'd be back from town(usually 20 minutes), even when we weren't at the lease. We didn't have any more break ins after that.

Leave a gate how you found. If it's closed when I pull up to it, it's closed when I pull away from it.

If it's my property it's always closed, if it's my lease I leave it how the landowner has it

                      Closed.

I don't see leaving it open as a deterrent. More of "hey look they left it open on accident, let's go see what we can grab" or if you've got harder criminals "they're in there, we can wait till the dead of night and see what we can take". Either way, both will turn into bad situation.

Closed. If you have to call 911 tell em to bring bolt cutters. More than once a late night joy ride went south quick for someone just cruising dirt roads.

Well, we have not choice, there are cows on the property.

Even so, I'd feel safer with it locked. Emergency personell can be given the code... or they can use the universal code

Not a lease, but property I own. Same thing though, always locked so folks never know whether I'm there or not.
