    Fleas in carpet......help!

During the last week or so we have noticed fleas in certain areas of our house. They are not bad outside and after checking our dogs in the yard they are not bad on them (they get fleas pills each month). However, we have an inside cat and it seems a flea problem in our carpet. We have vacuumed several times and sprayed some of the "flea spray for carpet" that you can buy at Walmart but to no avail. Anyone else had this problem? Is there something a little stronger that I can spray inside the house to get rid of these suckers?

From what I have read this is not a one time treatment and done but needs to be done several times. I am OK with that......just want these suckers gone!

We used some spray from a pest control place. Precor 2000 plus or something like that? The key is to use the vacuum with the disposable bags. Throw away the bag and replace after every use.

Cover the carpet and surrounding furniture with a heavy dusting of Borax....not Boraxo, Borax....leave for an hour or so,then vacuum it up....throw away the vacuum bag...fleas will disappear.

Go to a chemical company and buy some Precor. It kills fleas and their eggs. Only thing I have found that really works

WIth fleas, there's no such thing as "not bad." Even one flea is a major red flag. You can spray till Hell freezes over and still bring them in from outside. You probably need to spray outside, too. A female flea can lay 50 eggs a day.

Ditto on the Precor - I used that once and it cleared them out.

With fleas you have two real good choices.

1- Burn house and yard down with high heat.
2- Call an exterminator and have him come back 2 or 3 times

I will try the Precor and Borax. Gonna treat inside and out with it and see what happens.

We have a Rainbow vacuum that uses the water instead of a bag to contain the trash. I will still dump it ASAP when finished.

Spray outside. No matter what else you do, if you don't spray the outside, they'll just keeping coming back.

The Vet told us to repeat the spray every 7-10 days to get the new hatch.

I would spray outside, most especially in the shaded areas. You can almost ignore the areas of the yard that are in the sun all day. Hit the areas in the shade where the dogs go to cool off and lay in the shade.

Ditto about the vacuuming. Also, fleas are one of the few pests where spraying the baseboards matter. Most of the rest of them do not.

OK... I used to work for a vet, 5 years and now I sell a lot of insecticide.

Here is my suggestion, go to the vet, ask for COMFORTIS for the animals, it is a med that kills all fleas on the animal n 24 hours and it also kills any flea on it for a month. Get them on that it is AWESOME stuff.

Then come to a feed store, buy TEMPO... You can put a few ounces in a bottle and spray the carpet. That stuff kills it ALL(even bed bugs) and it has a residual. I would Spray the WHOLE house with it about ever ten days for the first couple months.

The key is the animals, cats and dogs. The comfortis works so well that people have actually claimed to eventually kill off the whole population just by keeping their animals on it.

Sprinkle Borax on the carpet, leave for a day, vacuum, then out the cat.

Ha! I agree the cat needs to go!

I assume when yall say Borax you are referring to the "20 Mule Team" Borax or Laundry Booster?
