This is our second year with the raised beds. We are doing the square foot garden method and it works! Our yield has been incredible! So far we have 4 4x4 beds with a few planter pots for determinate tomatoes, marigolds, and peppers.

Look at square foot gardening by a guy named Mel. Can't think of his last name right now. I ordered the book and read it. It's the best way to do a raised bed garden for sure. I'm on my second year and my plants grow great.

I have a 14 ft x 4 ft bed in my yard. I grow tomatoes (cherries, heirlooms, beefsteaks), herbs, poblanos, bells, jalapenos, and habaneros.

I figure that if you have the makins for good fresh salsa, just add some meat and you have a feast during the harvest season.

You can grow anything in them. I'm thinking about doing carrots, onion, okra, peas on the top row, and a tomato on top.

That's basically what I am doing. Lot of dead space there on what appears to be your garden flat. Is that enough to cover your families need each season?

Have a 4x16 and a 4x6 raised bed, clay based soil here. This year we're also trying out a straw bale garden.

Hey Bowhica will u fill that whole thing up with dirt?
No. They are 16" tall and I plan to leave roughly 4 inches of clearance.

I rough cut them from the pallet with my recip and then finish cut them with my miter saw to length. I had the boy pulling nails out of the 2x4 frame boards. Came out great. If I get some more, I'll post a video. Next project is my ranger roof.

Do you have the stamp for spacing the plants and proper layout?
I pulled the companion plants list from the farmers almanac and the squ ft farmers list. I'm using them for best yields.

For those of us that didn't seed, who has the best deals for starter plants? Home Depot had 5 plants for $10 last week. Kick myself for not taking advantage of that.

I've had raised beds for quite a few years now and as rocky as it is here, it is the only way I can garden.

I take it from your pics, the square foot method has to do with what can be planted together in one square foot?

I did not. And I do the sqft method. His soil mixture says you don't need to. I actually put cardboard at the bottom of mine to keep weeds and grass coming up. I grew corn, potatoes, tomatoes, and all sorts of stuff in mine. Root depth was not an issue with any of mine. It's a good book to read.
