You can pull easy to raise the fish back up after he makes a run, then when he runs again, just let him have line, keeping it taught, but not enough so he can pull off. Of course, If you're in brush, you just have to pull hard enough to keep him out of the brush. You of course run the risk of losing him, but it gives you a heck of a lot better chance of landing a big fish than if you are trying to fight him by holding onto the short noodle line. Been fighting big catfish like that almost 50 years. best method I ever discovered... passed down to my dad from my grand pa and no tellin' where he learned it...

What we do is get one of those marker buoy's like the bass fishermen use to mark their fishing spot. We wrap 40 or 50 feet (or more if you need it) of the big nylon line up on that and just lay it in the bottom of the boat beside whomever is running the line or noodles. When you boat up on a noodle, just have the yo-yo in your hand and raise it just enough to hook it below the noodle or jug somewhere, then let go. That way IF it is a good fish, you now have him on the end of a 50 foot big line and can control him much easier. The marker buoys that have the round floats about the size of baseballs and enough space between them to roll up a good amount of the nylon cord is what we like to use. They unroll easier laying in the bottom of the boat as opposed to those flat ones.. They work but make a lot of noise unrolling in the bottom of the boat as you pay out line to a big fish.

    Thanks for the clarification.

And just in general does any one make different length lines and make them interchangeable to fish different locations??

.110 weed eater string. Get it at TSC the big roll 700' i think. I make them about 30' I i run the line from the eye to the middle of the noodle then zip tie a latching swivel around the line that way you can just unwind it to the desired depth and latch the swivel and it will stay there and not unwind. works like a champ.

Monster Noodles. That's what their called.

They have a 4" diameter. Are about 48" long. Come in different colors. And the center hole is a bit bigger. So I'm using 1-1/4" PVC. PVC is a tiny bit loose in the center. But not much. Some duck tape or Great Stuff foam will fill the space to make it tight. I've already got the Great Stuff foam and know from using it on other projects it's gonna work. I get 4 floats per stick. Thought about going 18" with the floats for more buoyant float. And using a 24" PVC stick. So far the only colors I've seen are blue and green. I bought green only so far. But I'm certain they should have other colors available. I like the lighter colors.

I hope they make a 6" diameter Monster Noodle soon.

And these 3 sticks will be added to the other three that are already cut up for processing . They'll get a 4/0-6/0 hook for bigger fish like my other bigger jugs.

                              FYI
There are all types of jug making instruction videos on Youtube along with lots of people setting them out and catching fish.
