I bought 28 acres about 4 years ago. It was just dirt when I got the place.

We are moving there full time by years end.

      I will semi retire..

My dad had this dream, therefore I will inherit at least 1/3 of it & my other 2 siblings could care less, so at some point I will likely buy them out.

We have 320 ac in Coleman county.

In my dad's retirement, he never enjoys it. Always has something he's "got to do", a project of some sort. It's his nature, if he sat still he'd die. He's busier in retirement then he was working full time in at middle age!

I'm building a plane when i retire from the FD in 6 years. Then flying to my in laws ranch on a more frequent basis.
But i plan to be debt free by then so i just might buy my own place

I am in the midst of building a lake home and we have expanded our business quite a bit, so I went from almost debt free to big time debt, I am 55 and don't plan on ever retiring, I do have my son in business with me so I have plenty of free time when I need it.

I though that I had retired two years ago. With five homes and ranches scattered around Texas I'm a full-time maintenance man.

I am very undecided about where my wife and I will retire. I would like to have a little place in Comanche or Livingston area. I know two totally different parts of Texas. It really depends on where our kids are at.

We will have to make a decision soon as to where we will live for our kids highschool years. We have been in Krum for 11 years. We love the area because it is still a small town but close enough to Fort Worth and Dallas to be there in less than an hour.

I retired a couple of years ago and bought 17 acres near Bandera. Now have access to the IRA to build and provide utilities.

Bigest problem now is taxes. Having to use a CPA for taxes and paying a small fortune in taxes.

At least everything is paid for.

My dream is to own land in the hill country and retire to there. Ranch chores would be more than enough to keep me busy and happy.

Im a Looooong way from retirement. (26 years young) However, it isn't to early to start working towards my goal. My wife and I already live on 50 acres out in the sticks. Property and the house are already paid off. Only debt I own is my truck note. But it wont last long. Will be putting my son through College before I know it. My plan is to keep stashing whatever cash I can away and when the truck is paid off, we will start to look for another 50-100 acres.

The older we get, the wiser we get. Wish I had been wiser earlier...

In the triangle between College Station, Huntsville, and Madisonville, there are quite a few properties for sale. The are popping up like popcorn recently.

This is my life, dang near exactly....except I now have a daughter in the business. We're building our dream home on the lake with enough room for all of our kids and their future families to visit. It's less than an hour from my office, but far enough away to feel like I'm getting away.

Why would I retire? My wife would work me 10X harder at home making stuff she finds on Pinterest than I'll ever work at the office.

That is/was basically my thinking. I elected to finance property earlier so that I could have it nearly paid off by the time I retire. This has the added benefit of getting to hunt the place with the family for 20 years during the process. The down side for the "saving" for retirement idea is that property values have gone up just as fast as savings. When interest rates were at historic lows it made more sense to go ahead and purchase.
