In all seriousness why cant we just design something like a parachute big enough to slow down an airplane to give those people a more realistic chance of survival. When I hear plane crash I immediately think everyone passed away I have hardly ever heard of survivors so why cant we build something so massive like a parachute to slow the fall of a plane and it could be engaged if something like this incident were to happen? I understand then who would control this, where would it be located and all. Or better yet instead of all those seat cushions that can float I would much rather be on a plane that has enough individual parachutes so the passengers can bail out if something like this were to happen.

We can implement as many nannies as we want. But, when it comes down to it, bad people are out there everywhere. They will figure out a way to take things down.

What amazes me is that it was reported that the copilot learned to fly in a glider and had only 600 hours total flying time.
It was also reported that on American carriers when one pilot leaves the flight deck, another crew member must take his place in the cockpit to be able to open the door if the remaining pilot becomes incapacitated.
Not related to this incident, I read that some Asian carriers have co-pilots start as co-pilot with 0 hours flight time, only simulator time.
As always, because the above was reported by the new media on their websites it may or may not not be accurate.

I have seen videos of smaller engine planes using these big parachutes. They work to perfecting. Only problem is that they are super expensive and that's for the small planes. There oughta be something on board the plane, parachute or anything, that can prevent anything like this from happening. I do think that parachute deal underneath the seat could be used but the airliners would probably never put them in. To expensive. I couldn't imagine being someone on board that flight.

On a side note I would gladly pay more for a flight that included a parachute as a safety device with all that has been going on with in the last few years with commercial flights. An airline could make a big jump in the market if everyone was willing to pay more for extra security with a parachute. Thats not to say something like this still could happen but I would feel better if there was another option to getting out alive.

What about a way to override controls from the ground? So someone could take over and safely land the plane?
