I have a late 2012 that should have all the oil fixes....so they say. And it tends to eat up to about a quart every 10k. I am running AMSOIL Signature Series in it. Some have the problems and some don't. Outside of it eating a little oil its been a great truck. Just rolled 72k. Been running Amsoil since the 2nd oil change.

My buddies 2010 Chevy had the same related problems at 140,000 miles. They wanted 4 grand to fix it. He left it with them and got a new 2015.

            Where was your truck made?

Sometimes a problem is assembly plant or country of orgin specific. Plant code is the 11th didgit of the ser#, R is Arlington. County of orgin is 1st didgit(1-USA 2-CA 3-MEX).

wait wait wait are you saying a piston rod, is knocking? I have worked on many of these engines and have never seen that have seen many and I say many with cam and lifter issues normally lifter will stick causing it to score the cam and and then its normally a easy cam and lifter job but, if it is a piston rod knocking they don't just start knocking. how often do you change you oil change and do you use synthetic or coventional

I agree. I've never seen one with a rod knock. Not saying it's impossible though. On that engine the knock you get with bad lifters and cam is pretty loud. I'm thinking this is your problem.

Flat cam and/or roller lifter lost it's needle bearings. Chevy has had some problems with heat treatment on the cams not getting the lobes hardened properly. Not sure who grinds their cams but IMO it's a third party issue that should never have happened year after year. Happened on my 2005 Hemi-Killer at 80k.
Engine is now at 155k and still going strong.

I ran amsoil in my 05 tundra and had to add about a quart between oil changes. No leaks, it just burned that amsoil oil for some reason.

I don't think it is just ford problem, my buddy loaded up the family last week to head to the beach in his 2009 Tundra(90k miles)and it took a dump on him at the end of the block. Wanted 11k for a new motor😳

My 5.3 2007 Tahoe has 161,000, but it was rebuilt on Chevrolet's dime at 80k. They had some issues with that motor saying the rings were not sized properly.

sure its not just a lifter problem??.. cheap fix and real common
unless u are sure about it i wouldnt discount that engine...they fail but rarely like that in my experience.

MY lifter started knocking on my 2006 suburban at about 175,000 miles when i started the car cold; Would have to kill it and re-crank it for it to stop; got worse and I had the "O" ring replaced in the oil pump where the pump picks the oil up in the pan. Had to drop the oil pan to get to it; they say its a common problem in high mileage 5.3L chevys. Never had another lifter knock after replacing it, over 200,000 miles now.
