Saw the 8 hogs come into the bottom I was watching and had to stalk around 40 yards to get a shot. Most were the size of this one, was one a bit bigger and was wanting to shoot him. But was standing in the open and decided to shoot the first one I had a shot on, was worried they might bust me. Pig ran around 20 yards and fell in a small drainage. After seeing blood trail knew it was dead right off. So was able to grab the meat off it, get out of woods, check out of refuge and get home just a few minutes after dark. Not the greatest shot on a hog but that 2 blade mechanical did its job, first critter I had shot with this particular one.

Congrats Richard! 11th hour magic. I love it.
I'll be sure to call you tomorrow to see how your Hagerman hangover is.
All kidding aside. Kudos to you for sticking it out and making the most of it. Much respect, sir. Much respect.

well finally made it home. After drying off from my unintentional swim we hiked over to an ag field in BM and finally saw some pigs. First ones spotted of the trip. Two big boars about 600 yes away on the other end of the field. Basically the only stalk we had was along a tree line, and even then we were in plain view. We never even made it into the field before the spooked. So we sat down around where they were for a bit and then decided to try and check the other field on the way back to the truck. As soon and we make it back to the road after trading across the sloppy field we turn and see a group of about a dozen small pigs in the same spot we had been sitting! Had we sat tight we would have had an easy shot. Anyways, we tried to see about stalking them but they ran before we ever got close. Not pigs in the other field but probably 50 deer. It was a long, wet 1.5 mile hike back to the truck.
Ended the weekend seeing countless armadillos, skunks, and possums, 3 coyotes, about 14 pigs, and probably every doe on the entirety of the refuge. We hiked somewhere around 14-15 miles all weekend, 9 of which was today. I went swimming, twice, and about 3.5 of today's 9 miles was in wet boots. We are sore and worn out, but had a great time, and will be back next year!
Also, we'll try to get a video of my clumsy butt in the water...language might need to be cleaned up a bit

Good Job Micah.
Sounds like you had fun Justin, is what it is all about. You are the man swimming in this weather. Was telling my brother about a deer hunt stand setup day out there where I got my boot stuck in the mud right behind the refuge center, sure glad there were no witnesses to that. But that stuff is what you remember and makes it fun. Had a blast again and look forward to the next refuge hunt.

dunno the story on the pig. came across it on sunday 2.5 miles down meadow pond lane, laying 30 feet off the trail.
yup, i was stepping easy when entering the water, didn't wanna go swimming like justin (where's the video white848evo?).
i crossed elba creek on saturday and big mineral creek twice on sunday. not to mention various spots you just walked up on water in the woods in low spots.
