You are a better man than me Bish...they are being irrational under the circumstances & although they may be nice, they certainly are not being friends.
If your dogs went onto their property, it would be different...you warned them!! I would not lose an ounce of sleep over this. I hope they come back around for your sake, but they need to understand it's likely going to happen again.

Eventually they will come around, unless another cat crosses the fence. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I agree with this. We have 2 cats and my neighbors have dogs. It is not their responsibility to keep my cats out and if my cats get in their yard they are not to blame. Animals will be animals. But I do feel like it is their responsibility to keep their dogs at home as well. I had a new neighbor move in across the road about a month ago and his pit got out and was in my back yard. When I called the # on his collar he told me to just turn him loose and he would holler for him to come home. I made it real clear to him that I had cats and that I didn`t want to harm his dog so he had better keep him home. I told him in as nice a way as I could but I wanted him to understand that I did not want his dog running loose on my property. I guess it worked cause he has not been back. By the way it was a pit bull and probably one of the friendliest dogs I had come around my house.

dogs are dogs....IT IS literally their genetic make up. If I was a dog I would chase cats(not a big cat fan in the first place), and if I was a cat I would chase mice.
Not much more you can do amigo. I know its not quite the same as the dog-cat issue your dealing with, but reminded me of this story.
The fella that lives across the street from my dad in OK, came over one day to tell my dad to keep his squirrels in his yard! My dad asked him what in the world he was talking about. Neighbor said he had killed all of HIS squirrels and now it was my dads squirrels in his yard and eating all his peaches out of his trees. My old man told him to call a game warden and ask him who them squirrels belonged to. Next day neighbor came over with a basket of peaches and told my dad that he solved the squirrel problem once and for all, said he really showed them squirrels who was boss........HE CUT DOWN EVERY PEACH TREE HE HAD GROWING!!!!!!
Needless to say the neighbor isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer! Dad said he wasn't positive on how many trees he cut down, but it was upwards of a dozen. A couple weeks later it came up again, jokingly my old man told the neighbor he needed to get off his chest. Dad told the neighbor that those actually were his squirrels and that the whole time he was pi$$ed because he kept feeding his squirrels all those **** peaches!!!!
They haven't spoke since!!!! Thought I would share this story. Hope it works out for ya!

People need to keep their animals under control. I like my cats. A lot. But they stay in the house. If they get out and something happens to them its on me.
Animals are not people. Just because they are your best friend or whatever doesnt make them people.
OP, you didnt do anything wrong. Dont lose any sleep over it. With luck the neighbors will become understanding AND they will get their animals under control.
