Another one of Dave's quotes along those same lines:

"We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like."

Another twist on finances is Mr. Money Mustache. He's sort of a snarky, Gen-X Dave Ramsey. www.mrmoneymustache.com
I am a reader of Mr Money Mustache also. He takes it one step further than Dave and teaches a lot on stripping your life and spending down to bare minimums in order to stockpile money to be able to retire at a much earlier age than normal.

Who cares that you drive a focus? A car is not a status symbol like some people treat them. It is a tool that gets you from point A to point B.
I agree completely that a vehicle is a tool. I will have a nice truck once I am in a better position financially but I will always have a gas saver as an everyday commuter vehicle. The kicker for me is paying off these darn college loans.

I have never read any of Dave's books but out of Curiosity what does he say about 0% interest loans?

He says to stay away... but his rational is that most people don't pay them off and get hit with the interest when you don't.

...which is exactly why "zero" interest loans exist.
