Consequences for harvest mistakes on your lease?

I am always thinking of ways to improve our lease. It is getting time where I am thinking about next year already. I am curious to hear if y'all have consequences in your rules for harvest mistakes. This being our first year on this lease, we have had two harvest mistakes already. I am learning that it is something that is unfortunately common and will probably happen from time to time. Both mistakes, resulted in being the hunter(s) trophy for the season. We are trying to establish a trophy minded lease with our goal of producing 160"+ bucks. I am looking for ideas based on rules that are currently established on current leases. This will be a standard that I also will hold myself to as well even as co- lease manager.

I understand that the ultimate consequence would be to kick a member off the lease for a mistake. I am a firm believer that honest mistakes happen and there are some issues that really should be viewed on a case by case basis. I am looking for more concrete rules that might be in place on your current lease that we could utilize on our lease. Any advice (on this thread or PM) from TBH members that are lease mangers or members on trophy minded leases would be greatly appreciated.

We don't have any because there are only 3 of us.

I'll say this though. If whatever rule you establish isn't adhered to, it's useless to have rules.

Obvious, right? Well, sometimes not so much...

Like you said there are honest mistakes and intentional errors.
To avoid shooting button bucks, require smaller does be taken.
Shots must be recorded on video
Deer must be approved by lease group that it is a shooter via trail cam pics or video.

Depends on how egregious and flagrant the mistake is. Accidental? Intentional? Dangerous?

As a biologist and someone who has managed properties for over 25 years I can tell you the wonderful ups and downs of rules; but before rules can be made there are variables that have to be considered. Free range, high fence, amount of acreage, natural food sources, water, neighbors etc...... A lot of times rules go a long way to taking the fun out of hunting and what it truly means to be granted the opportunity to be outdoors where its is shrinking as we speak. I wish you luck especially with such lofty goals as 160 inch deer. Good Hunting, Good Friends and Memories

Our lease isn't quite a stringent as most. We require 14" spread and 3.5 yo on first buck, 4.5 on second. Penalty is $250 plus $25 per 1/4" too narrow. Max $500 per deer and penalty has to be paid before you hunt again. A button buck would get you a $500 penalty plus it would count as one of your bucks for the year.

How many times to the same person?

I agree. We have guidelines. Hard set do or die rules takes away the fun and true meaning of hunting in my opinion.
