Shoot a doe with a yearling??

Who does it? I won't...did it one time when I was young and had the baby running up and down calling for it's mom that I just killed...terrible.

Curious on your thoughts and reasons why you would or wouldn't.

    No judging here...

I'd kill them both. Are you talking yearling or fawn?

If yearling is big enough with no spots they are tasty . Just make sure it's a doe

Yearlings don't have spots. Fawns have spots.

I did 2 years ago, then I tried to shoot the fawn.

Meat is meat. And when you're trying to get venison on public land with a bow, you take every opportunity you get.

When I had a honey hole of a spot on private land and saw 20+ deer/day, I wouldn't have, but situations change.

And I agree on the "make sure it's a doe." I don't shoot nubbin bucks if I can help it.

This same subject was discussed two weeks ago on here. I am not sure folks are using the correct verbage. Fawns are up to 6-8 months old and Yearlings are 6-14 months...........approximately! I don't shoot fawns but yearlings have been know to get thwacked!

Bingo.........yearlings are as tall as the momma but just not as thick/mature.

I think you mean Fawn, not Yearling. A Yearling can be 1 1/2 years old. I wouldn't shoot a doe that had a Fawn with her.

Purely depends on my hunting situation. Ideally, no, I wouldn't assuming the yearling wasn't weaned. But in cases of extremely high doe counts (and usually associated with a relatively low level of predators in the area) I think it's alright especially if you're rocking an empty freezer. I think the ultimate question is "by killing this doe will I also be killing the yearling?"

And I'm using a broad definition of "yearling" to encompass a fawn
