Nope. I am generally a fairly "relaxed" hunter, but I have come to determine that a wind at your back just doesn't work. I hunt in West Texas and it's hard to play the wind, but I've got stands set up for a SE wind and a N wind, and I might see a single deer at 80 yards if I'm hunting the wrong wind and will see 10-20 deer if the wind is right. It matters. You can douse yourself in coon urine while standing downwind of a mesquite fire for 4 hours and a diligent deer downwind will pick you off in 2 seconds. An old buck is usually going to scent check you anyway if you're hunting a feeder, but not spooking the does and young bucks just might make them a little less cautious. If you're hunting a trail it's absolutely vital to be upwind.Last edited by The Crippler; 10-09-2014, 11:57 PM.

The quickest way to burn a spot for the year is to hunt with a bad wind. Ever here someone say "I just don't understand. If I am not there the trail cam shows lots of deer but they are never there when I am". Well that happens because they hunted with a bad wind. The deer got them patterned and so now the deer check each and everytime before coming in.

I'd add to that a three hour drive to get there and knowing I'll have cattle to work, fences to mend, fields to plant, or whatever the landowner has for me to do when I get there. Plus I only have one stand location which means in one weekend I might have favorable wind once if I'm lucky. Dang I need my own place.

Also, take a bath in no scent and put out some tinks 69.
a few years ago I had the wind shift and "go the wrong way" . 10 minutes later here came a 14 in 8point. He came right under the stand and I could have jumped on his back. The tinks smelled right for him! and he never caught my scent. I let him walk.
Plus the fact is, who really knows which way a deer is coming in, in the piney woods of east Texas
