Have had sleep issues as well. What has helped me sometimes is prior to bed time, take a magnesium capsule. I quit drinking caffeinated tea and all other beverages with it last year. That seemed to help some.

How about a sleep study? You could have sleep apnea!

Muzzy, I guess it affects people different ways. A buddy of mine was on it and did some scary things. Two different times he got up in the middle of the night and made a spaghetti dinner, **** near burned down his house when he left the burners on. He had zero memory of any of it.

i've found that stress can be a huge factor.
if you're up worrying about stuff, it's hard to get the gremlins out of your mind.

while i don't know how to fix that, the following may help:
              1. as issues pop up, put them in a mental compartment "issues"
              2. sort through them and create solutions for what you can and move them into
another mental compartment "fixable" or something
              3. for the ones you can't solve, put them in another one "work required" or whatever
              4. when the "issues" compartment is depleted, try to fix some of the ones that require
more effort... maybe think about who might be able to help you with each one.

              that's my 2 copper.

Great, now I'll be up all night trying to build mental compartments.

Ambien was the worst drug reaction I have had in my life EVER!! Hallucinations, nausea, nightmares, worst hangover of my life. Took one tablet and missed two days of work. I take the OTC NyQuil sleep aid with melatonin at night. Still don't sleep through the night but at least get SOME sleep!

Not being able to sleep has to be one of the most debilitating ailments known to man. It feeds off itself. Your anxiety levels go over the top because of your fear of trying to sleep at night which keeps you awake even longer. I struggled for two years with severe insomnia. Tried all the natural remedies such as valerian, melatonin, peppermint tea. OTC remedies such as benadryl, Zquil, sominex, and many others. Went to doctors who prescribed anti anxiety and sleep meds. Some of those worked for a while but very shortly my body rejected them and the withdrawals from those was something out of a horror movie.

Here's what worked for me. Get into a healthy routine. Eat three healthy meals a day with supper no later than 7:00. Take a multi vitamin. No caffeine after noon. Exercise every day but no later than 6:00 p.m., the most strenuous exercise you can stand. Running is preferable. Pray. Have your bedroom cold and dark. Don't get in bed except for sleep. There is one exception. But don't watch TV or snack in bed. Limit liquid intake after 7:00. A glass of wine or two is okay. No more than that. Alcohol may seem to help you GO to sleep but will not allow deep REM sleep. Pray. There are scriptures specifically addressing "sweet sleep" and I relied on those when all else failed. Eventually I got my body back into the routine it was used to and although I still wake up periodically I can usually go back to sleep fairly quickly.

All I can say is I feel your pain brother. I wouldn't wish insomnia on an enemy.

Advil pm it's wonderful, when I want a complete sleep thru the night it does the trick.

I got to sleep at 4 AM this morning. Now I am awake at 5:15 AM. I get about 6 hours a night if I am lucky.

I had a back surgery a little of two years ago and I have Spondylitis. My feet hurt every night and my back after I do something strenuous.

I have had Insomnia before and I do not take sleep aids. I do take ADD meds and thphaynos kore than likely the culprit. Oh...and my wife snores like a freight train (in my ear).

It is a lousy way to live. I slept in the upstairs spare bedroom tonight and will continue to do so until she does not snore any longer. In her mind, she does not snore. After 34 years of marriage, I just tell her sorry but you do and I will sleep in the doghouse!

It may be a long cold Winter! I don't care, I just bought a new set of fleece camo!

                            I feel for ya!

Have a sleep done to rule out sleep apnea or narcolepsy. If none of those are the problem, then try some of the do it yourself ideas.
