    Struggling with Sleep

Does anyone else struggle with sleep? I've always been a light sleeper and if I got 8 hours of sleep it was rare. But the last six months have been bad, I'm lucky to get 4 hours of sleep now. I work construction, so dragging *** at work is not a good thing. I will be exhausted when I get home, sit down to watch the news and fall asleep almost immediately. But when I try to go to bed my mind races and it can take hours to go to sleep, then like clockwork I'll wake up around 3:30-4:00 and that's it for the night. Any help would be appreciated

It sounds like you need to see a sleep specialist. Sometimes the body gets out of sorts on sleep and a Dr. can help....

Sleep study might help, but I had a medical issue recently that kinda got me shook up and I could not sleep but 2 or 3 hours in a night, was killing me. I got some ZQuil, made by Nyquil folks and it has been great!!! Non habit forming and I have been sleeping well.

            good luck

              Struggling with Sleep

I fall asleep in about 90 seconds at 10:00 but wake up with my mind racing about work between 2:00 and 3:00 every morning. Been that way for years. I take Benadryl on occasion when I am really tired. Doesn't keep me from waking up but let's me go back to sleep in an hour or so for a bit.

My wife has to take some high powered prescription sleep aids to get 5-6 hours sleep but she wakes up well rested and says that is enough for her.

Stay away from prescription sleep aids! I had trouble sleeping in college. Got on Ambien and then Sonata. I became dependent on sleep aids and getting off of them was a long, miserable process.

It sounds like your naps are not letting you get a full night's rest. I know it's a vicious cycle. You're not sleeping enough at night so you want to nap ... but your naps are keeping you from getting enough sleep at night.

Try to skip the naps or set an alarm so you end up taking a beneficial "power nap" without the bad effects.

Just getting in to a better routine will probably help tremendously.

All of these things have helped me.

No naps especially later in the day.

                    No caffeine.

Stay off my phone an hour before bed time.

If I'm still restless when I try to sleep I will take a 25mg Benadryl and that will usually do the trick.

have you tried exercising? I always sleep better when I am in shape and working out on a regular basis. Sleep study isn't a bad idea either, they might id something you didn't know was going on. Good luck

I used to be that way but I've gotten better lately. Turns out I had a vitamin D deficiency pretty bad. The Dr told me when I got my vitamin D levels where they need to be I would sleep. I don't know if that's what did it but I take 8000 IU of Vitamin D every day and my sleep has greatly improved.
