Have you ever tried to make them? Be aware that making a batch of tamales is pretty labor intensive and time consuming. I'll gladly pay $10 per dozen rather than ever try making them again!

Only time I ever had tamales that were worth the price was when I was on a lease near Cotulla. Landowner got us hooked up with a woman in Cotulla who made them and we cut a deal. We'd shoot a hog for her, she'd come to the ranch and field dress/skin it and take it home and make tamales. We'd get half of every other hog we gave her. Wrapped 12 to a pack--filled the camp freezer and whenever we were too lazy to cook, it was tamale time.
