Not really sure...My wife makes ours. Can honestly say growing up never bought tamales. Family always made using what we harvested. I must say elk tamales are to die for.

Have you ever made a tamale? They should charge more because of how long the process is

I won't pay more than $8 per dozen. I prefer pork tamles. But I hardley ever find them.

There's a lady that makes them and brings them up to where I work, $8/dz. Had one show up one time and wanted $14/dz. It all depends on how big they are, if the $14/dz are twice as big (and taste just as good or better) than the $8/dz, then sure, I'd buy 'em.

I never considered it to be that much work to make them. It takes a little time but so does cooking a good brisket. The wife and I will make up five or six dozen around Christmas. With the meat already cooked, we can prepare them all in about an hour then it is just a matter of steaming and packaging.
I am not that big of a tamale fan but the kids love them. I would just as soon have a pulled pork and jalapeno burrito which tastes better to me and is super easy to prepare.

They are about $10 to purchase around San Angelo.
