Have you ever tried to make them? Be aware that making a batch of tamales is pretty labor intensive and time consuming. I'll gladly pay $10 per dozen rather than ever try making them again!

Man....go to Rubens tamales 1807 Rigsby Ave, San Antonio, TX 78210 (210) 337-0025. They are about 7.50 a dozen and homemade. We always stop on the way back from the lease.

Yes they do. I pay $6/dozen there and furnish the meat! Still MUCH better than trying to make them. Did that once and that was enough torture for me! Never again. Granny's is the best I've ever had too.

8-10 in College Station. I too miss the days of .99 cent gas, .88 cent diesel and 4/doz tamales.

But it is a TON of work to make them. Im lucky enough to have a MIL that enjoys making the a couple times a year.

We have a guy that sells them here at work for $18/dz. I thought he was crazy until I tried them. They are so big he uses banana leaves instead of corn husks.

I made 200 tamales once out of pork and venison. I go to Granny's now. Won't make them myself again. They tasted good, but not worth the time and effort.

Beef is cheap with a lone star card. Tamales are mostly profit.

Haven't bought any lately, but the place in Red Oak quoted a price on the phone of around $12 dozen. That's with tax.

Only time I ever had tamales that were worth the price was when I was on a lease near Cotulla. Landowner got us hooked up with a woman in Cotulla who made them and we cut a deal. We'd shoot a hog for her, she'd come to the ranch and field dress/skin it and take it home and make tamales. We'd get half of every other hog we gave her. Wrapped 12 to a pack--filled the camp freezer and whenever we were too lazy to cook, it was tamale time.
