is it ok to sleep while your buddy drives?

You know, I've always been the one to drive and whoever is in the passenger seat sleeps, but I am always afraid when I get to ride there that i'm offending someone by "falling off" to sleep while they drive and not help keeping them awake. What is the consensus on this? Ok to sleep and let them drive or stay awake to keep them company?

I cant sleep in a car for some reason when I'm the passenger, only when I'm driving do I start to fall asleep.

I'm okay with driving as someone sleeps until they start making a habit of it... Or being on the phone the entire time we're in the car...

If I'm riding with somebody and its a very long drive and we swap out every couple of hours then yes I will sleep while they drive and they will usually sleep while I drive

Depends on the situation, but we usually say the people in the front row have to stay awake.

Only on the way home. I'm much too excited to sleep on the way there. Others do it to me without worry. I shouldn't care what they think and get some shut eye. Just pray your buddy isn't the prankster type.

The passenger seat is meant for sleeping.. When I'm driving, my wife sleeps.. When she's driving she requires me to stay awake and talk to her... Women...

Well if your gonna rotate while driving i think its fine. If you dont rotate I think it depends. Id like to hear what everyone else says.

I don't sleep when I am in the front seat. I don't trust the person driving to stay awake. Only person I can fall asleep on while in the front seat and actually trust is my dad. Maybe Its from my child hood where my dad could beat up your dad type thing... idk lol

this is my exact situation!! Why do I seem to worry about what they think when they don't care if i'm driving? dangit but I do!

I always try not to. But riding seems to put me to sleep. If i start to get sleepy i always try to check with the driver and make sure they don't mind. I also remind them to wake me up if they start getting sleepy.

Stay awake to help keep the driver awake. Several years ago a friend and I were going bear hunting in Ontario. After landing in Duluth MN, we rented a car and headed north. I sacked out while he drove. I happened to wake up as he was nodding off and headed to the ditch on the far side of the road. Luckily he woke up when I yelled and we did not hit anyone head on. It would be a heck of a note for two Texans to croak in a ditch in Minnesota!

That is exactly how I feel! Its crazy cause sometimes Im almost dead from exhaustion and cant fall asleep.
