    Tire problems

I just put new tires on my truck, last Friday (Discount Tire).
Left there, and when I got up to 60mph, the steering wheel started shaking.
Drove it straight over to Driver's Auto for an alignment.

Took it back to Discount, Saturday morning for them to rebalance them.
    Left, still shaking.
Took it back a second time, Saturday afternoon for them to balance them a third time.
    Left, shaking worse than ever.

    They ordered more tires.
Went back yesterday and they put on two new front tires and ride matched them.
Manager told me that if this didn't fix it, that it was something other than the tires. Imagine that. First thing out of his mouth was the alignment must be bad, so I informed him that I'd had it balanced right after I left his store, on Friday. He was confident that the tires were perfect.
    Drove off, still shaking!

Went back to Driver's Auto to talk to them. Of course he said it had to be the tires and suggested that I go next door to a brand new NTB that had brand new, latest and greatest balancing machines and have them balance the tires. So I did. They pulled one off and spun it, with DT's weights on it. Not balanced. So the rebalanced all 4 and then test drove the truck. Came in and told me that it rode like you were on a cloud and there was no vibration. The offered to check the alignment for free. OK, go ahead. Came back in and told me that the left was out a bit. I told him to fix it because I was so happy that my truck was going to ride so smooth again. Paid them, left the store, got up to 60 ... SHAKING WORSE THAN EVER!

Called them while I was driving, and of course they want me to bring it back in.

I've been pretty pleasant, with all these people, so far, but I'm at the end of my rope. I want this crap fixed before the vibration drives me nuts! I don't think this is anything other than a tire issue because the vibration gets better and worse each time it's rebalanced. Where else can I take this thing to get it balanced by someone that KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING?

I went through the same thing a couple months ago with the local DT here.New tires ,shake like crazy.Bring it back rebalanced ,same thing.Gave them one more chance and same result.I balanced them myself at work and it rides perfect.I'm about done with DT.

Ever thought that you could have a bad wheel? Some times the balancer won't pick it up because of how close it sits to the machine. Just my .02 cents.

If it is a Ford and a F250 or bigger and does not have a steering stabilizer on it, then that could be your problem. I had one that would do the same thing, the Death Wobble, but when I put a steering stabilizer up front, problem solved.

They could have bent a rim on the initial tire change, or if theyre alloy wheels, maybe they need to be torqued. But i bet its a left front rim. Try rotating them and see if the vibration moves. In the steering wheel is front vibration, in the seat is rear tire vibration. Good luck with whatever it is

            TT,
I am currently dealing with the same thing. Vibrates in the steering wheel at speeds from 60 to 75 and when I slow to a speed between 45-50, start to pick the throttle back up and it vibrates. I can let it coast from highway speed to below 45-50 and no vibration.

If you figure out what's causing it, PLEASE let me know.

Don't get me started on discount tire. There is a reason they are "discount"!!!

I had hail with them also..

That's a logical explanation, but the truck rode perfect on the old tires. A bad wheel would have caused a shake with the other tires, as well. They suggested that yesterday, at DT too. I told them to spin the bare wheel and if there was an issue with one, I'd accept the problem as mine.

No, Doug, this is a F150 2wd, but at this point I'll add a steering stabilizer if it'll fix this.

The steering wheel AND the seat vibrates. You can watch the passenger headrest move about 1 1/2" back and forth, as you drive down the highway.

Believe me, when I find someone that can fix this, I will post it here with PRAISE!

What brand and size tires? A buddy of mine had major issues with Kuhmo's like you're describing. He wound up returning them to discount and ordered a different brand. Fixed all of his problems.

2WD should not need a stabilizer, only the bigger trucks with the solid front axles. Man I hope you find your problem. that can get dangerous in a hurry as bad as it sounds. I know on my 1 tons, if it started doing that, it was hard to control where you were going.

I wonder if the tires may be out of round? Had this before also.

have them rotate the tire 180 on the rims....then re balance.
And did you stay with the same size tire?

                          Sounds like a warped rotor

Hope you get it resolved Kevin, had an F350 do that on left hand curves at times and it scared me pretty good at 65 mph.

Let me check with him today. I think I may have the wrong brand, Falken sounds familiar too... I havent had enough coffee yet.
