12V DC with a solar panel, could even go with a car battery if needed. Ohhh, maybe instead of a chain drive, use a tiny pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder kind of like a swinging gate opener.... IDK, just a thought, probably never happen.

Don't know if or where you can buy these but sounds like what you want. Just hope it never rains during daylight hours
The first one would work, but doesn't seem to have the capacity. As far as rain is concerned, no worries. A buddy and I built a trough style feeder a couple years ago out of plywood, 2x4's and part of a plastic barrel. It held about 500lbs of protein, got rained on a lot, and never once got clogged up. Bucks didn't seem to have a problem eating out if it either. It was basically a small creep feeder, like for cattle, on legs, with a sheet metal top that extended several inches past the trough and about 3 feet between the trough and "roof". We tucked it in some cedars and tied it down with bailing wire. The only problem we had with it was that the bugs and mice took their share, (tons of daddy long legs), and it was open like Ihop, feeding 24hrs, they just ate at night.

My all seasons timers are still going well.
All my All Seasons feeders came with "the timer" when bought new. They all are working great after years of use. I didn't know all seasons made their own timer.

Have you looked at Capsule Feeders? http://capsulegamefeeder.com/#about

              Interesting idea. Expensive though.

When I bought my land in Rock Springs in 2003 I built a Dbl stack 55g barrel feeder with a timer and motor from Academy I believe wildgame innovations. It has had the same battery in it since then till this year. Replaced battery and should hopefully go another 10+ years. It has had a cage and solar panel the whole time.

Been using WGI 12V units on feeders I built and only have had minor battery issues (solar charger not keeping them charged but for 4-5 months) but most of that is caused by solar panels being in heavily shaded woods. Theses units are feeding 24/7/365 for the past 5 seasons.

Have had 6 of The Timer since 2007 feeding 2x365. One had an issue and was replaced within a week with a new one, at no cost.

                        Simple to set and use.

I have thought of moving to The Timer if needed (which I have not), but I see they have a 5 year warranty. Has this always been?

Same here. We have been using HCR for about 15 years, have been solid minus one lemon. Started using the Timer and have had zero issues. Slightly more configurable.

What ever timer unit you go with, I would highly suggest a good cage. I took a 55 gal barrel lid and fab'ed a cage so that the cage is as big as the lid... Screwed the lid to the bottom of my feeder (it's a square feeder that has a funnel below) and then attached the cage to the lid with a hinge and a retainer clip.

Not one problem in the two years it's been up from coons or porcupines.....or people either
I totally concur. Just bought 2 of these as complete units($160) from west texas feeder supply. Timer is good, construction is durable, and the 12 volt motor puts out an awesome spread. An added bonus is that the photocell mount is inside the critter cage and no exposed wires for them to rip out and keep battery from charging. The mounting plates can be purchased separately($10?). The one thing I added was the eliminator spinner plate($39) because I have a family of coons that deplete my corn. I will buy 2 more to replace my other 2 units.
