Why do we travel around to 10 different stores for a whole weekend, buying very specific items on a teachers list, in the color or sport themed items your kid picked out to only be sent home with folder's from the dollar store? Since when is it ok to turn your school supplies into a co-op on the first day of school. We where told that the kids names that where put on everything was erased and redistributed! Don't they have back to school supply drives to donate supplies for those that choose to spend their money elsewhere, I mean can't afford them .

I commented on that at meet the teacher night last week. My 4th grade daughter started putting all of her supplies into big rubbermaid totes on one of the tables. I asked why she wasn't putting them into her desk and the teacher said they all share from a common pool of supplies so no one will, "feel left out". My wife, who knows me well, grabbed my arm and steered me away, saying we can discuss it later.
I'm the first guy in line to open my wallet if someone is in need. I don't mind sharing school supplies with a kid that truely needs them. BUT, I also wonder about the deadbeats out there that can afford the supplies and just don't buy them because someone else will.
"From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs." Really? In our public schools?

The thing is, why make a child suffer at school because the parents are deadbeats, especially in elementary school. some of the parents can afford to get their kids the supplies, but choose not too for one reason or another and if that child has no school supplies, then they fall behind and fall behind quickly. Hence the pooling of all the supplies from the class and redistributed as needed. Yea, some of the parents needs a butt kicking.

My wife did the same thing to me LOL..
If you want to get really mad just sit there a few minutes until a few of "them" walk in. Put your supplies over in the bins the teacher will say...and then hear the lies about oh, I never got the list or I will get them tonight. And it's so freaking obvious they have zero intentions of getting them.
It's amazing how the give me free stuff I deserve junk has rolled down to everything. Sometimes I wonder if you're the right race if you can skate through life 100%. I mean they even have money set aside for band stuff (instruments, private lessons etc) for the "poor" people. And yes, every darn one of them have $600 cell phones and their kids.
Oh and what really got my goat was when my son took a college class in high school. Then they wanted $85 for "the test" so he got college credit (it was free when I went to school). All fine until I hear them say oh if you qualify (we all know what that means) it's only $30. I straight up asked where the $55 came from. Of course I could never get an answer. IMO they can take that $85 and shove it right up ....... if the test really cost $50 but they overcharge those who pay.
At the bare minimum someone needs to start checking what these people make, own, or spend before giving them everything..... Rant over.

Mainly we have good kids and parents at our schools. All the kids at our school bring their own stuff, but it is still put in a pot for all to use.
I don't have a problem with the kids sharing, but I also don't live in a bad school district like the big cities.
Go to Walmart and pick up the teacher checklist. They will have 100% of the items if you don't wait until the last minute. At least they do that in our school district.

Which of these do we do for the deadbeat parents kids?
1. Feed them
2. Cloth them
3. School supplies
4. Medical care
5. House them
6. Extra curricular activities (like football, band etc)
7. Bring them here from other countries?
This list is endless. Sorry but unless really poor (not just lazy) they're the parents responsibility.

I had to laugh at some of the parents at meet the teacher night they had all their pencils that I guess they had made with the kids name on them. They were trying to figure out what to do. My wife is a teacher and she buys school supplies year around and typically on sale.
Putting all the school supplies together is what it is. I have more important things to worry about then which kid brought a 50 cent folder and which one didn't. I know my wife bought extra everything so the teacher would not have to buy it. If you went around to a lot of stores to find certain things you probably waited too long to get the school supplies. Also if you spent more than $50-60 per child for school supplies you probably spent too much.
