Nope. I'd have left. Tips are based on performance.

All of you who would pay a $5 tip on a $10 tab and **** poor service send me a PM for my address and send me $5 just because.
I am all for tipping and would even give a $5 tip but not for crappy waiting.
Apparently some of you have the mentality that if you should tip based on the amount in your wallet, not the bill total and level of service. Just because I pay with $100 bill does not mean I have an endless supply or even another
Personally I would have left without tipping if the waiter brought back 2 fives unless I had a dollar or 2 in my pocket

I think it's funny how some folks talk the talk about firing folks who don't work, paying employees based on what they are worth to the company, work hard, do good work, get paid well etc, then turn around and tell a guy who got bad service they would have tipped the waiter even though the service sucked.

I pay with $100 bill. Check total was $10.00. He finally brings back (4) $20 and (2) $5. I don't have any other bills. I'm not leaving a $5 tip on a $10 check (50% gratuity), especially for poor service.
Would you ask waiter to break the $5 or leave without tip?
BTW restaurant was not busy.

No tip! He knew you didn't have ones that's why he brought you two 5's. If he would have put that much thought into "customer service" we would not be talking about it now.
Very manipulative thing for him to do. All goes back to the modern way of thinking we see today. Everybody wants something for nothing.Last edited by sharkhunter; 05-03-2014, 03:05 PM.

Bringing back fives does not mean the waiter expected a five. That is what happens when you assume....
The waiter could have been equally frustrated because you paid a $10 tab with a $100....most places don't carry that much cash. I bought a can of dip and a drink at a gas station last week and paid with a $50 and it was only $6. The guy at the gas station looked at me like I was crazy because no places carry that much cash anymore. It's just a sign of the times I guess.
At least he is working. I definitely see both sides here. Anyhow, you can tip as small or large as you want!
