The 900 is the 800 version with the bugs worked out a little more!
The 900 engine is not new. It has been in the single seat version for a couple of years.
Are you talking about the 900 body or the 900 drive train? The drive train is significantly different and was never in a "single seat version" for a couple of years.
I could be wrong, but the 900 IS a new engine in the Ranger. It is also a different manufacture than the 800. Prostar I believe. The engine was used in the razor since 11' (I think) with great results. However, it was tuned different when put in the ranger. In addition, the engine was moved to the rear of the bike. Don't get me wrong, I like all of the changes a lot, but I want to see the 900s run for a year or 2 before I purchase one.
This is all information that I have read on the internet, so it must be true

The 900 engine part I assumed was the same engine as the single seat version that has been out for a couple of years.
The 800's are/were such a big improvement over the mules that the issues did not seem like a big deal but they were there.
The 900 is due to the issues with the 800 and a lot of them were addressed.
Anyone buying an 800 because they want to wait and see if the bugs are worked out of the 900 are missing the boat. The 900 is an improved version of the 800.
