Do you really hate them or are you just ashamed to admit you're afraid of them?

Admitting and then controlling your fears is a sign of adulthood.

In sixth grade I got called to the principle's office, mom was on the phone. I had to run home and put Oscar back in his cage, he had her treed on top of the phone stand.
and "who" put this knowledge in your mom? Uh yes, that would be God.

There's no one on this board more afraid of a rattlesnake than I am. I conquer and control those fears only by learning to identify snakes and understanding their habits and capabilities. 1st time I ran into a rattlesnake I shot it in the head from 20yrs because I was afraid of it, shook me up so bad I was shaking. Sense then I've sacked and killed thousands of them. Never been one to let my fears control my life.

This just reminds me so much of all the crap I've heard about wasps and bee's. "Hey if you leave them alone they wont sting you"...................how has that worked out for everyone? I can personally attest at being stung by several I was totally ignoring. I'm gonna guess that a lot ( maybe not most, but its gotta be close) of snake bites are people who never even knew they were there and happened on one accidentally. Same thing. Lessen their numbers and the statistics go way down on snake bites. Its a numbers game to me.

Fear can be a healthy thing. I learned this from my dad's belt.

I have been stung one time by a wasp for no reason, bee never and out of all my wasp encounters only one was unprovoked. Been stung several times by bees that were not bothering anyone until the fact that people started swatting at them and ****** em off. Leave the dang things alone and your odds of not getting bite or stung go up tremendously. Not saying unprovoked bite/stings don't happen but I would bet they are rare especially when it comes to snakes.

No, my Grandmother did, they lived on a farm. Growing up I was in charge of the snake patrol when we visited. Got replaced when I got older and started catching then relocating the nonvenomous snakes.

Edit: Something to remember is my grandmother taught my mother to be afraid of snakes before there was penicillin. Growing up in the 1st half of this century dying from infection was a real possibility. My grandfather died from a cut that got infected when mother was 8yrs old.

Ignoring a wasp and getting too close to their nest is not the same thing.
Ignoring them may result in getting bit.
Getting too close to their nest will almost always result in getting stung.

As far as snake bites go, the statistics show that most bites result from the bitten person messing with the snake in some fashion, most of the time either by trying to catch and/or kill said snake.

I like snakes ALOT and I have even had several as pets. After reading some of the posts it makes me want to kill every good one I see and drive around town with them tied to my antenna.
