My Coach always would tell us, "Never tackle with your head down. If you tackle with your head down, you will break you neck. What is even worse than that, you will miss the tackle!" Not really a life lesson, but it has always stuck with me.

Hold yourself and others accountable. Admit your mistakes.

Wrong!! It 'can' save your life...if there is one thing from this thread is to put your @^*!% face mask on the tackle!!

I will agree that football is the ultimate team sport to me.

Hockey, soccer, basketball... Most any team sport teaches the same thing. Teamwork, discipline, hard work, dedication, attention, roles and responsibilities, etc.
football provides nothing that can't be learned elsewhere.

No thanks, I'll google where that is in a few.

I'll play along, one word descriptor for me...Resilience. I definitely realize it's not for everyone and that everyone who played didn't have the same experience I did. The game made me a better man, provided me with a free education, (bachelor and masters degrees) and was a heck of a lot of fun to play.

I learned the ACL surgery, the screws in the knee, the 3 scoping so to the knee, the concussion was not worth it later in life.

Sometime you're the windshield, sometime you're the bug.

I wouldn't waste my time looking it up, I'm not sure Google knows.. Where'd you play college ball? I would have loved too, but I wasn't any good. I had a blast playing though. This is more of a retrospective thing. I just don't see where it has benefited me, and I can certainly pinpoint where it hurts every day.

sounds like some didn't learn anything in class. just like in the classroom.

I don't think that football is the only place to learn life lessons. I personally think that a solid support system at home is the best place to learn that. However, the majority of the kids I coach lack that.

I do believe that football provides a wider spectrum of opportunity to learn some of life's valuable lessons.

Is it the only or best place? No. Does it do wonders for those that play and sell out. No doubt.

I'm shocked at some of these responses here and on the other thread. No wonder the horns are so soft.

Are you saying the game is for everyone?? Lots more folks in the stands than on the field regardless...trying to understand where you are coming from, unless a it's just a cheezy cheap shot @ the horns which is ok i guess??

Even when you know your opposition has an upper hand, give it your all anyway. Quitting never got anybody anywhere. It's fun to knock the snot out of people.
