    Life lessons from football

The other thread got me to wondering. I know a lot of people are dead set saying you get lessons from football that you can't get anywhere else. Someone enlighten me as to what they are. I played from 7th-12th. And I've worked a lot of my life.

I am seriously drawing a blank. I learned at a young age to be tough and not cry. I learned how to take the heat from work and the cold from hunting. So help me out here.

I learned later on in life that individual sports not only teach you life's lessons, but also humble you..I read the same thread you did,and I scratched my head a little also.

Every play has its own little battle. You vs the other guy. You can be the hammer or the nail. You can never quit or you will be smashed. If you quit, quitting becomes easier and easier.

Discipline. We were not the most talented team, but we beat teams with a lot better athletes because we were more disciplined.

Strictly, from football. You can learn discipline from anything. I learned that at home. And playing baseball. You can learn not to quit from pretty much anything to me.

I personally believe you learn teamwork in football much better than other sports. You depend on others, they depend on you, and it's a constant fight.

You learn to play your assignment and to read your keys, not to try to play others assignments or keys. If you do this, and everyone else on the team does the play works, if not the play breaks down. I believe this is most critical in football as opposed to other team sports.

I Agree with the OP that started this Thread. Football taught me so much in High School especially about Discipline,Team Loyalty and Hard Work. I also worked thru High School on my off hour's. It also helped me prepare for the Marines when I graduated.

Football is life...unless you played under the lights, it is really hard to explain & comprehend. The connection of coach, player & family is huge & every bit as difficult to explain. If you remember Friday Night Lights when boobie busted out his knee, it layed the path for our runner to win #1 rusher in the state for 5A that year. We were all & will be Al Bundy's.

I tried to keep my son out of the game until jr high but was outvoted by mom...He played through jr high & told me he was done & wanted nothing to do with football anymore. Told him I supported him & to pick another sport & is now the only sophmore on varsity playing soccer!! He simply was not wired for fb & seemed like he was more worried about hurting someone?? There was no click that was growing, but I never said a word & let him & mom figure it out on their own. I 'think' he was playing for me & not for himself, which say a lot!! Everyone will have a different lesson depending on how the wash comes out.

I'm actually missing a soccer game right now as the wife is working and my daughter wanted nothing to with the weather...it's sorta sad to see a stadium that can hold over 10k with only a handful of folks, but I do get what draws crowds.

The game for sure lead me from self distruction!!

I would say now it boils down to team work & not one individual can get credit...probably why I enjoyed the relays in track 100x more than the 1 on 1 races. If I could get the plant to run like a well oiled football team and get production appreciate what quality does & they in turn understand what sales, operations, quoting, HR & customer service deal with, then we would never have delivery problems.

I have no idea. We only played it with friends, never played for a real team. I learned early that Im a fiercely independant person and not a team player, though I have no doubt the game can teach valuable lessons.

I learned that I would rather hunt after school than go to practice
