I use a carter Quickie II, and my wife and son both have Scotts.

After playing with a few of them I am a firm believer that this is one of the areas in life where you get what you pay for.

      What everybody else said.

What kind of release malfunctioned on you?

been shooting scott for a decade without a single problem.

I have at least 10 mini gooses and taught my son to use them too so we both shoot the same release . . . . never a misfire

I had this exact problem and another one like it with 2 different Scott releases, then one that would shoot if the wind blew on the trigger. I'm not saying they're junk, arguably the best release made. My point is, it's how you take care of it.

When my release wouldn't release, it was because a I had a metal string loop and a side opening release. It would hang when you tried to shoot some times. Cost me an opp at a nice velvet buck years ago.

Second one had dirt in it and it wouldn't shoot when I touched the release.

3rd was a missing tension adjustment bolt. You could almost look at it and make it go off!

Inspect you're equipment and do a little research to make sure you know what you're looking for.

I just bought a Scott Sabertooth on Ebay for $55 delivered. They are usually 70 plus. I asked this same question last week. You won't beat a Scott Sabertooth for $55. The seller has more than 10 available. Just search Scott Sabertooth using a buy it now. They are listed at $59.99. Offer $55 and they'll take it. My buddy and I both got one for $55.

Scott or tru fire. I own both, and they are very reliable.

                  Carter Lucky

It breaks like glass, like a great 1911 trigger. No play in the trigger or over-travel, just clean, accurate shots.

Scott makes a good release. But really, you get up in price a little bit and all the releases are rather nice. Just have to choose your style.

I had this exact problem recently! I missed two sub-10yd shots on a hog that would have been insta-BBQ otherwise!

I use a Scott Little Goose (it's awesome), and here's the thing:

I discovered by accident a few weeks later that what happened was that when I was drawn back and released, I was tweaking my wrist in such a way that the string loop was suspended on the hook of my release! Then, when I moved my wrist even a hair - BOOM - the loop fell off the hook.

Same Scott for 15 years. I polished the surfaces in contact with the string with very fine emory cloth once, but I don't think it was really required.

Scott changed the Itty Bitty Goose to have a webbing strap instead of cord like mine, but it's the same idea. You can tuck the release head into the wrist strap if you need to climb or use your hand, and with the strap you can easily put your right hand into your pocket to get something out and not have a rigid piece of the release in the way- if that makes sense.

$57.81 on amazon. I'd recommend it to a friend.

as far as releases go,, I use scott because.. I have used a few others, including cobra, tru ball and tru fire, a few I don't recall,, I simply prefer the scott, and the little bitty goose is my choice,, it is a single caliper style , as only one side of the jaw moves the other side is fixed,, to me I get a more accurate shot since it always comes off the jaw the exact same way.........

but im going to go were no one else did,,,,, because something similar recently happened to me, and it was not the release, even though at the moment I thought it was.... what bow are you shooting, and is the draw stop moveable in a slot , bowtech, martin, rytera, high country and a few others come to mind,,,, if your draw stop moved, (and they can as I found out the painfull way) you may have experienced a "hang fire" not caused by the release, because when mine did I watched the string simply and slowly fall away from from my face, I even had time to think, "that ain't good", my bow blew up and the string cut me good and the arrow broke into 6 pieces, after a closer look I found the draw stop had slid just a little bit and caused the cams to over rotate and momentarily lock up in reverse, I twitched and it then went off,,
in no way am I saying the release was not the problem, but take a real close look at your bow, if the draw stop is on a slot on the cam !!!!!!!

My advise is to forget about staying around $50. Your release is way more important than that. For me, it's a Carter 2 Shot. My favorite all time release.
