My wife works for a construction company. 6 or 8 inch PVC pipe is great stuff.

What justin said. I like my "crappie huts" 8-10' tall, but smaller would work fine off your dock. Jigs tend to pull through the bamboo better than the christmas trees, and they will last several years. Again, check your regs.
