Texas panhandle rut/hunting report

Nice morning saw some good young bucks. Maybe this afternoon I get the 1 I'm after

I drug my old man out of the bed yesterday morning for his first set this year... Only to see nada.

Checked cams and we have plenty of activity. My bet was he'd have to pass quite a few bucks that evening... But saw nothing again.

This morning he again saw nada.

Our bucks are back in bachelor groups and hitting the corn but sporadically.

Got in the stand around 7:00 this morning.Saw nothing at all.Got out and went roaming and came across 10 mule deer.Been a pretty slim year.

Well mine came in all busted up !! No right side so I'm taking this doe to shamrock instead

Just got back from the lease this afternoon. Didn't hunt Sunday am due to an inclination that 45mph winds and 10ft tower don't mix! I thought the camper was going to blow over. Didn't see squat all week on our pasture. My son did pop a doe on another lease members wheat field for some meat. I needed to change batteries and put a card in my trail cam this am before we came home, so I went to hunt for an hour while my son slept. Figures, big 7 point cull buck came in with a spike and 4 point. I let him walk since special youth season will be coming up and we'll be making one more weekend trip. Hopefully he'll show up again for my son. Amazingly, he had nothing even chipped on his rack. The other two young deer both had one side broke off close to the pedicle. It has been super hard hunting this year on our place. Have only seen does twice all season and not getting much on cameras either. Very different year from last year.

Looks like my season is over. I might get to shoot a doe later if I can find one. This has been the slowest season ever. I don't know if it's because of the drought or all the oilfield traffic or what.

It's time to start fishing anyways !!!!

Things seem to have ground to a halt for me. Very little on cam. Nothing seen this evening. Corn still there from the morning spin. Not giving up but it almost feels pointless to try. Anyone else hunting tomorrow?

Hunted tonight.Got in the stand around 3.Had 10 mule deer does come in and feed for several minutes.Had gun shots to the east of me,but nothing for me to fling an arrow at.Was bone chilling cold,may be my last hunt for the year.

No bucks in sight this morning. Had two muley does in early and then two whitetail does came in at 8 am when the muleys left. Very happy to close the season with my second big doe for the freezer.

Congrats on closing the last minute deal on the doe. Those big panhandle does will certainly fill a freezer for you.

Hope everyone had a good season. Who will be out on doe patrol? I am hoping to go on pig patrol this weekend with a friend.

Headed up this weekend to try and get my son on a late season buck. Calling for 73 on Sunday in Wellington. Quite a change from the ten degrees last trip.
