    Texas panhandle rut/hunting report

I am starting this thread to help keep up with rut and deer activity in the Texas Panhandle. I spend 3 to 4 days a week in the field in Hemphill and Wheeler counties so I will do my best to keep yall up to date on what I am seeing. Hunters in this area are free to do the same.

So here is what I've seen in the last week.
The rut seems to be a little ways out. I am not seeing many bucks right now and what I have seen are still in bachelor groups. Though I have seen some yearlings with does they were not chasing. I am also not seeing any scrapes or rubs yet. If the rut goes as normal we should start seeing pre rut activity pick up around the opening rifle season.

Something I am seeing different this year is that deer are feeding at all hours of the day. I pass by a couple of wheat fields daily and there are always deer on them. That is unusual where I live, especially on a busy road. Maybe in for a long winter.

    Good luck!

Bucks have been starting to roam pretty good in Our area. Motley/Cottle county line. Have seen some scrapes around select feeders also. Lease partner had some bucks chasing a doe around his feeder but not full blown chase. He said he did see a doe take a leak, then 4 bucks walk right down wind of it and go to it sniff and lip curl. I think it's getting close butch be another week or two.

Foard/Hardeman county.......Thanksgiving week.....every year, year after year. That is if there were any deer in said counties, which they're not, do I don't know why I am posting this.

Still a little early in my opinion for both the whites and muleys, will be a few more weeks.

Kent/Stonewall counties, the trail cams pics still showed bucks in bachelor groups and the does still grouped. No scrapes as of last weekend.

Doug I found three good scrapes last weekend and they seemed to just start breaking up. I had a good 4 year old 8 bristle up and throw his ears back on a 3 year old. I still thank it will be as usual though and pick up about the 3rd week of November. I love hunting the last week of October though.

I've hunted both Foard and Hall counties over the years and for whatever reason we always have great deer movement over youth weekend, and not even rut related. Most years bucks are still in groups. The week of Thanksgiving and the week following you can pretty much count on as the prime rut in my experiences.

Same here. Thanksgiving and the week after though last year it started the week before.
Opening week of rifle season has always been great hunting for me.

My friend was out scouting one of our places in wheeler county today and saw a bunch of rubs. The bachelor groups are broke up around my place in Hemphill county. I'm starting to see a lot more deer movement. Should be a good weekend for opening rifle season.

Rubs are showing up and one of the guys on our lease saw a very young buck chasing a couple of does in our big field today. Kent/Stonewall counties.

I'm not seeing much deer movement during daylight hours this week. Made a stand last night and saw a small doe. I'm gonna fight the wind this morning and try again in Hemphill co when I get off work. We are definitely in pre rut. I am seeing more scrapes around. Hoping to let the air out of a nice buck this week. Off for 7 and I'm gonna hunt hard.

                            Good luck!
