Axis is the better tasting meat. Elk is second.

Axis is a close relative to the elk.

Both eat grass, hence the reason why they eat so well but, Axis is ranked as the number one Venison by world-wide game meat markets. Axis have no fat and they don't have any marbling (ZERO), through the meat itself. An ounce of Axis steak has .06 grams of fat, 26 calories and 13.9mg of cholesterol, recommended to extreme case heart patients as a beef replacement.

Let's just say, if you age axis and cook it without any freezing, it's SWEET MEAT!

I love elk, don't get me wrong. Ate elk burgers Monday night matter of fact, 2 of them (my buddy in Corpus provides me elk meat yearly) so I have a regular supply of elk meat. But....Axis, it's unbeatable, extremely tender and the most healthy form of red meat, with 4 legs, on the planet!

The grains within the meat of AXIS.....you dont' see any.....it's consistently just like a big slab of meat...nothing stringy at all within the meat muscles.

Axis is my favorite meat, hands down, but elk isn't too far behind.
If it's truly a meat hunt, I'd shoot the elk, assuming that price is not a factor.

                Another vote for elk.

Even if they were the same size!

At that price elk hands down. I can get 2 axis does for less than that...

But $600 for an elk cow sounds fun.
