How long did it take..

I crossbow hunted in Ohio as a teen. Never even seen a deer when bow hunting there. After college I picked up a bow and took a doe my first year. Took some time off and picked it up last year again. Missed a 160" + WT last season. Now I am taking a year off after my accident.

I was just curious about how long folks hunted with a bow before your first deer bow kill.

I hunted a long time the first time I bow hunted without a kill.
But when I picked it back up I shot a doe the second year. I got a doe and my first buck with a bow last year.

I was FORCED into bow hunting, during doe/spike season one year. I got my first shot, on my first sit, but she ducked the arrow. I killed my first slick head the following October and my first buck the season after that. I consider myself fortunate, but I had a good teacher too. Hi Larry!

This will be year 9 i think. Shot my first animal last season. A buck that i never recovered so still 00 for me!!

Still looking for my first. This is my fourth year. Didn't hunt much the first two seasons though. My wife arrowed a doe her first season lol. She's luckier than a **** house rat though when it comes to hunting!

1st season 1st day of hunting I shot a doe. I thought, "man this is no problem". 5 years later and I have killed one buck since that first doe. Way harder than what I thought it was going to be, but also way more fun.

Took me about 2 years for my first bow kill which was a turkey. Took about 8 years for a deer. But, I was holding out for a buck, which in retrospect was STUPID!

With a bow it took about 5 years attending hard knock university. It was a lot like Jeremiah Johnson for me.....ha!
For elk it took 6 years. I was blessed to hang with some amazing hunters in Montana and Alaska who taught me how to be successful almost ever year since. It is a skill acquired, and mostly its how much time you spend in the mountains. Its been a great journey. One thing for sure is, without fail.....every year I learn something. Hang around skillful hunters and you will become skillful.
